LAKE CADILLAC & MITCHELL
« on: Dec 07, 2019, 07:52 PM »
Stopped by Cadillac and Mitchell today, Saturday 12-07-19, no safe ice yet.

Both lakes had a couple of inches towards the end of November, then got some heavy snow.

Someone got out about 75 feet on Little cove before turning around.

Getting close, just need the weather too cooperate better.

Good Luck all

Sorry, wrong Joe.
My dad says he would never go on a lake in winter, even if it was frozen solid :)

Thanks for the post Joe - were you at the decoy show on Saturday? I'm seeing the canal between the lakes is still partially frozen and is starting to open up - weirdest thing, but once that canal opens all the way up it's a good bet the lakes are ready.  For those of you wondering WTH is this guy talking about, the canal will most always freeze over before the lakes and once the lakes harden up the canal will open back up....

I wasn't able to make the show. It is strange with the canal though and I also remember it being on Ripley's.
Side note, a new series of Ripley's is back on television on the Travel Channel.

Checked Mitchel and Cadillac today. Thursday 12-12-19

Little Cove on Lake Mitchell had a couple of people fishing
Big Cove on Mitchell also had a couple.
The causeway on Lake Cadillac had one person fishing.

I walked out about a 100' onto Big Cove and measured about 2 1/2" of ice.

I prefer a little bit more ice, next week looks good on the weather, I hope to be out there soon :)

Pilgrims Village put out a report yesterday that Mitchell still had about 6" of ice. A little sloppy on top but still...Anyone else check? "Might" consider a trip up tomorrow 🤔

Just got a PM from them. Said ice was sketchy at the shores of the bays but better as you go out. Might give it a shot tomorrow morning.

That wet snow will not help at all. I am sidelined for a while so I can not go. I saw that several people got wet getting off HL yesterday. Be safe and watch your step
