When does everyone think we'll be on the ice this year?? I predict the week before Christmas, say the 20th.

Same. Went out and popped a hole last weekend but didn't have a rod or time to fish. I found a couple places with a couple inches on them yesterday. Got out and felt pretty comfortable on a few inches. Too bad it will probably be gone this week!

Safe ice in NJ already?! There's several lakes in NW NJ that are locked up with under an inch. But progress nonetheless!

53 today 55 tomorrow unfortunately progress reversed. I'm not sure what lakes you are referring to as being locked up with 1 inch of ice but it's not gonna last.I just checked my early season spot that sits in a valley and always freezes first because of location and there's barely an inch in the coves.

I said less than 1 inch but it doesn't matter at this point after this warm front we'll be starting over. I have several little private ponds that always lock up pretty quick so we'll just have to hope we get a long enough cold spell to at least get rid of ice fishing fever.

After this sunday, it's supposed to start getting cold. Lows in the mid to low 20s and highs in the mid 30s.  Hopefully the weather stays like this

The 10 day forecast looks good if we don't have wind on those cold nights.

Safe ice last year from about 12/16-12/20 then a warming trend before Christmas for about a week made it very questionable to be on the ice. I fear a similar trend this year and think we will have safe ice before Christmas eve but it may be short lived before locking for a longer period.

I fear the same thing will happen but we'll see. Maybe we'll luck out this year and the lakes will stay locked up.

Got on the ice last season 3 Jan. last ice for me was March 9  65days total.   That was a Polar Blast year.   We will be lucky to see 1/2 of that this year if Lucky.

Well we are right on the edge the water is cold 1 night in the low 20's and I'm seeing skim ice. Just need a full week in the teens or low 20's at night and no higher than the low 30's daytime we will be in...or on as the case may be
There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the ice like an idiot! I won't tell you which side of the line I'm on.

Im seeing several small ponds with some skim as well and they were open as of yesterday. So judging by the forecast we may be fishing soon, but we all know how quickly the forecast can change around here..
