We have received our approval for the 8th Annual Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby.
26 & 27 Jan 2013
$10,000 purse again this year - proceeds are for "The Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund"

UPDATES

The Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby will be having a 2012 Ford F150 pickup from Pelletier Ford as a prize!!
The target size for a fish to win this prize is
Salmon - 16lbs
Togue - 27lbs
Brook Trout - 7lbs

There is also a $2500 Ultimate Ice Fishing Package being given away - only Registered anglers can qualify for this package.
The package includes = Jiffy Pro4 Propane Auger, Marcum VS825SD camera, Weekend cabin for 4, Frabill Headquarters Shelter, Soroc Sport Tote, Yeti Cooler, Set of 5 Heritage laker tip-ups, Heritage Basket and more.

All target size fish are possible to catch seeing that they are lighter than the state record. IMHO brook trout seems the most possible.
If I may make a suggestion... place a Jan. 25th deadline for registration. A lot of anglers will only register on Sunday the 27th if they have caught a fish worth entering. Just my $.02.

Derby registrations at all outlets do end on the 25th at midnight. We pick them up early Saturday. Anglers can still register at the Long Lake Sporting Club on Saturday & Sunday morning.

The state boat landing does not have the facilities to allow the derby to set up tables for registration, it does not have the facilities to run 4 hours of live radio each day, it does not have the facilities to allow a closing ceremony, it does not have the facilities to even run the weigh station.

The Long Lake Sporting Club has been gracious enough to allow us the space each year,at no charge, even though we interfere with his evening dinner crowd. That is one reason we moved the deadline for weigh in earlier last year and this year.

Last year Varney's Insurance paid for free stew & ployes for anyone at the derby, at the Long Lake Sporting Club - all weekend

There are positives and negatives, but it is the best we have.

Why is Cross Lake (T16R5 & Cross lake TWP) excluded from the derby this year? Or has it always been excluded and I didn't realize it?

when I clicked on the banner on the top it still lists cross lake. It has always been a part of it as I fished it 2 years ago.

Even with a place on Square I always fish the moosehead derby that weekend. Traditions are tough to break, but that's ok I will be hitting Square hard before that weekend. Good luck to all

Check on the IF&W site... it is listing Cross Lake (T18R10) on the application with Beau and Glazier lakes.

UPDATE

A lot of things have changed since our last post.
We applied for lower fish weights to win the 2013 F150 from Pelletier Ford.
Insurance costs were doubled!!

A fish that breaks the state record in Salmon, Togue or Brook Trout wins the truck.

There will be a 20X40 tent outside the Base Camp at The Long Lake Sporting Club.
Inside the Tent will be sponsor displays and Vendors displays from several Ice fishing equipment manufacturers - Heritage Laker Tip-up Flags, Otter Sleds, Rapala/Strike King, Quigleys Outdoors, Pelletier Ford, Acadia Federal Credit Union, WAGM TV and more.

Cross Lake in T18 R10 IS CLOSED TO ICE FISHING and always has been. Someone made a typo and should clarify this. Don't ice fish on Cross Lake in T18 R10, you'll get caught for sure.

We own St.Froid Lake Camps and Campground.My brother runs it so we are suppose to be going up to the derby to visit and catch some fish.

Mttf best bet is have one of those cheap bubble wrap radios and holler out to team maine on channel 7. Or if you have UHF in the aircraft tune to 462.7125
