Just a slow day was all
Were you using pinners for bait? The salmon almost NEED pinners or perhaps a banded killifish out there. I'm familiar with the area you fished, the water is somewhat shallow (15-20')and the bottom murky out towards that cove. Next time try setting up a couple of clicks toward the thoroughfare.

Yep, pinners on all. Will move up some next time. Thanks for the info

I have put a lot of time in on Square the last 7-8 years both on the hardwater and trolling.  I can honestly say I have never been skunked fishing Square through the ice.  I fished there on the 11th, and 12th.  The first day we easily had 30 flags. Then the next day we fished in-front of the thouroghfare and caught a mess of brookies.  One nice one at 18 inches.  I agree there has to be some 4-5lb brookies in there and some 8-10lb salmon.  I have seen 2 6lb salmon and a 7lber come out the last couple years.  Too many of the little ones which is why you can keep 3 salmon at only 12 inches, but who wants to keep a 12 inch salmon.  Good luck with the derby, I will be fishing the moosehead derby this weekend, and will be back up to Square in February.

-30f windshield factor both days. not very fun to fish in. 1st year i fished it we redrilled the holes at noon.  couldn't keep up with them freezing.  bad time of year for a family derby. wish they would have it in march. i thought maybe they would cancel but too much money at stake.

I am doing it on Saturday. If it is freezing up real fast I will just stick to jig pole in the shack. I think if you pull anything of size you need to get it tagged for sure this year. Entire FRC has been sluggish and the cold weather will keep many away

Well ended up putting the shack on last night, was a late night, finally settled in about 3am. So we had a late morning, and did not get started up till late..  We went down to the sporting club and looked around. Signed up for Smeltmans raffle , and will probably head back over tomorrow to make a few purchases.

We ended up setting up off the boat landing in St. Agatha by the forest service..
