I tricked my wife into thinking that she wanted an underwater camera so she would have something to do when she came fishing with me.   ;)

I tricked my wife into an electric Icegator. I took her out with me and had her help me with the hand auger. After the third hole she said" how much are those things anyway?"

I went shopping the day after Thanksgiving. Sure it was a pain in the a**, but my wife was so happy that I got to buy $80 worth of new stuff. I probably could've gotten more if I wanted too. Sometimes a nice gesture pays off in the end.

I hope it worked because that's what I was thinking of trying.

I tricked my wife into marrying me because I thought she came from a family with money, and I could trick her with all types of plans like those stated above.  Unfortunately it backfired because her family actually didn't have money.  ;D

Fortunately, ice stuff is justifiable because it's right around Xmas time ;)

hasn't happened for ice gear yet, but this psat spring i convinced her that WE should get kayaks so WE can float down the river TOGETHER.  it worked, now I spend lots of time fishing from MY 'yak and occasionally WE take trips.  but at least she is into it...i'd feel like i totally scammed her otherwise.

For many years I tricked my Bride into believing that Brownings would reproduce if left alone in a dark safe for any length of time. I now know that she tricked me into believing that she believed that.

Well, I was getting all sorts of good ideas.... all the way up until my wife walked in and read this posting over my shoulder. Now I'll have to come up with something else. One thing that I have used for getting tools and such for the garage was by saying "It's a safety thing". There ussually were no more questions as it went in the cart. She did eventually catch on, but still let it work.

This is a little bit longer process, but it works, just give it time.  Get a hold of the junkiest looking old fishing stuff you can find then complain how your old pole, auger, flasher, etc.. finally died.  Say how you've had it for years and it was real sentimental, shed a few tears (thinking of Ol Yeller helps).  Then starting leaving fliers for said pole, auger, flasher, etc..laying around and talk how you hate to have to replace the ol girl, but maybe it will bring you some solace.  At this point you should be expecting said pole, auger, flasher, etc.. for a christmas, birthday, anniversary, or "just cause I love you gift", she'll actually think she's being nice, and "lifting your spirits".  Don't be afraid to lone the old junk fishing equipment to friends, maybe they got something you can borrow.  The wife will never catch on cause she don't know what you got, she knows your fishing equipment like you know her shoes.

If you don't think this plan will work just go buy it; it's easier to ask for forgiveness then for permission!

I like to buy gear with the thought and story that it's a Xmas gift for my brother or dad. Some of the items do filter down to them, but mostly it's for me. Especially when buying a newer better version of something and I get the "Don't you already have one of those ?" Honey it's a gift (for me).
