how does everyone keep their fish, if your out all day?

i usually throw them on the ice and let them freeze.  if you dont put them in a plastic bag the dnr walks up and starts complaining like a little girl, that you are discarding the fish and not simply placing your fish that you have just caught directly next to your shack.   sometimes if its late i'd rather not wait for the fish to thaw before you can clean them,  especially when you have to work in the morning.     but you had to catch one more.....

After bein around where there were some theives I lock Mine in the pickup if I wanna keep them.  Ask Gamedog about it.He had a 17# removed from alongside the shanty while we were out checking tipups. And Walltrout too.

I throw them next to my shanty and clean them when I get home.  If it's real cold, I'll throw them in the corner of my shanty so they don't freeze solid.

On those cold, all-day, trips - using your power drill cut 6 or more holes next to each-other (stopping before going through the ice).  Using a spud, clean out the lagre hole and poke a small hole in the bottom.  Water will fill your "holding tank".

Forgot - I mark these with some of those utility flags, like the gas company uses for buried lines.  One night of that cold weather freezes the hole solid.

grandpa used to say never let the sun set on an uncleaned fish.
when i'm fishing i'll leave them on the ice till i leave. sometimes they freeze.
i think i like cleaning them better when they are a little frroze.  stiffer and not as slimey.
i have left them frozen overnight and cleaned them the next day. but gramps was right-they suffer for it. the meat is not as good. i think at the very least get the guts out.  i think the ammonia from the decay of the guts gets into the flesh even if it is frozen

also, in the summer, i don't like to let a dead fish soak in water. ice is ok, but i think they go bad if they are just floating around dead. better to keep them damp in the cool shade, i think.
 thats just how i've been taught to do it.

I also use the Ice Well, I hate cleaning frozen fish, too tought to clean around bones.

If it isnt really cold and the fish wont freeze solid i leave them on teh ice next to my shack, cover them with a bit of snow to keep the wind from drying them out, if its to cold ill throw them on the ice inside

Have a little plastic basket turned upside down that the flasher and camera monitor sit on. Cut a hole in the side to toss pannies in, works great in or out of the Scout.

I just use the thrown them in the snow trick, but there are better ways to do it

I toss my gills in a pale with snow inside of it so they stay cold and dont freeze. Also I use the snow so they dont get all slimy and they are easier to clean later. Hope this helps.

for panfish it is the ice well...that is one product I was not sure about when I bought but love it now, it iwll hold a ton of perch or gills and no more waiting for them to thaw after 8 hours on the ice

Not nessisarily   alot of eagles enjoy fish feeds  I toss the perch out away from where we are fishing and the good stuff gets froze flat then put in a bucket   havent had problems with anything taking the good fish when ya feed them the trash   they get full too!

I put them in a plastic garbage bag and pack it with snow or ice from the hole I drilled and keep it in the shade of my shelter.

We toss them inside the bucket the VEX sits on works nice small hole cut in the side

I put my walleyes on a stringer, poke a hole and put them back in the water I've kept some alive for 8 hours this way.
