Things started off pretty slow for us with the great weather, but as soon as the clouds rolled in.....the flags started popping and never stopped until the cold northwestly winds kicked into high gear and reminded us that winter is still not over.

Here is the first fish of the trip....a nice 19.5" salmon.

Here is the first large cusk of the trip in the 7lb range.

Our first few togue of the trip in the 3-4lb range with one on the jig rod for bbpinecone.

And this was the start of things to come as the weather started to change for us. Here is bbpinecone's first good one that just hit 8lbs.

As the weather started to become a little more difficult to deal with, we decided to set up camp and bbpinecone put our little fishing lodge together.

Here he is trying out the new Marcum vx-1 that he won on iceshanty. I think he might of even had a fish going at the time.

Here he is with the third fish of the trip that spooled us and the 3rd place derby winner....8.67lbs.

Here is Jason with one of his first large cusk in the 7lb range.

And his largest togue of the trip just shy of 8.5lbs.

And finally, in the wind driven snow on Sunday, he landed this beauty that took him through the rocks as we were pulling our traps at the end of the trip. He thought he had the derby winner, but instead it turned out to be this monster 10lb Kraken!

All in all, it was a great trip with great fisherman, food, and fishing. It was a pleasure meeting Silversides on Friday night and having him give Jason a few pointers on how to filet a cusk.

Great job guys! Was nice to meet you guys on Friday night. Looks like Jason had plenty of practice filleting cusk. We didn' have much luck where we were fishing.(except for those Codfish) I'm beginning to think the same way you do about that spot Joe. Although, I did watch a guy pull in an 8lb'er on Friday and there group had one on the ice Saturday that they said was 9lb 4oz. I think they planned on registering it, so it might be #2.

Now those are some monster togue and cusk. I'd be real happy catching some cusk that size, I think they're better eating than the togue.........although the togue are more fun to pull thru the hole.

What a great trip, two personal bests for me

. That cusk was such a pig, and he took out so much line I thought for sure he was gonna be a monster togue. You can tell from the pic that the wind was crazy at that point. The snow and sleet was sideways.

The 3rd place togue was an awesome fish, congrats bbpinecone.

Thanks for the cusk fillet tips silversides, it was a lot easier to skin them first. Good to meet you guys!

Actually, Jason will be doing most of the fish eating. He had 2 nice sets of cusk filets. Ryan ought to have a couple meals of togue filets as well. Of the fish we caught, we only kept 4, 1 salmon, 1 togue, and 2 cusk. Unfortunately for me, the salmon was gutted and in a bag buried in the snowbank outside of the camp like I usually do. When we returned to camp on Friday, the ravens had somehow found it and pulled it out of the bag and devoured most of it. Unfortuantely we didn't get to have that one on the broiler like we had planned. That was a first for me....and will be the last.

The next day we had a pair of eagles fighting over cusk remains in front of the camp.....that was pretty neat to see.

Let's hope everything works out for next year Mike, I'm sure it will be a trip to remember even if the fish do not co operate
