I live about 20-25 minutes from the lake. The roads are terrible right now, snowing very bad. I plan on fishing there sunday. I'm going coyote hunting with a few guys with hounds in the morning.

Had one going first thing in the morning but had to pull the hounds off because it was running along a nearby interstate. Not worth losing a hound over. Started another a little after 10am. Hounds pounded it until finally shot it a little after 5pm. Dropped it at about 40yds with a load of #4 buck out of the 12ga. Quite the chase. It was a male about 35lbs. Definitely a long day.

Ronbo  read the conditions board for the pack  I think it will help you if you come again.  It tales a while to figure the lake out.  Only got skunked on the pack 1 time this year.  otherwise it has been fine  and the thing is you never know what is going to be at the other end of the line :o

I agree with lottie.  The pac is a difficult lake to fish.  you have to move and move and move somemore to find the active fish.  this lake might be one of the only lakes I would not recomend using tip-ups for perch unless you get on them right away and keep catching them.  you move with the fish. all the time.  you might drill 5 holes in a day or you might drill 50 or more holes.  and still only get a few.

jigger,,dottie, ditto..i love the pac because it changes day to day. i take a guy out who will drill 5 holes, sets 5 tip ups that have 100# test clothes line on the spool, #2 treble, and a chunk of lead for a sinker. stab a 2" minnow, drop it to the bottom, and sit on a bucket all day. then after not catching fish, he complains that the lake stinks. it's not the lake that stinks. i fish the lake from my boat in the spring, and fall when the imports aren't flying around with jet boats, and jet skis. i drift until i find the fish. i just don't go out a hundred feet from the launch, anchor, and wait for the fish.

it looks like there'll be a few less guys on the pac next winter. for the guys that are tired of the pac. theres a lake in pleasant mount you may want to try. take rt.6 to honesdale, turn on 670 n.. go through pleasant mount, and about a mile or so up on 670n, theres a lake next to the road, it's on the right, you'll see the dam. it's at the bottom of the hill. it's loaded with trout.

Aquaroach,
How do you make out in the spring for walleye/striper. I fish quite abit up there as well, only at night however. Never start fishing before 10pm generally.

I'm not sure what happened to my post, but the Pac is  a great fishery. I iced fished the Pac for over thirty yrs and found it to be as each of you described the big lake. IF you are used to fishing for pan fish and love the art of jigging then the pac may not be the place for you. Fishing the PAC in the winter is difficult, but come Spring and early summer there's no better place to be. So, I will continue to fish the lakes in Tioga county and  and enjoy the pleasures of catching panfish.

beagler,
i have 2 walker electrics, with speed, and temp sensor on the ball. i usually leave out of waltz's at dusk, after the nut cases are done running around. i drop one ball down 15 feet the other 25. i try to hit the thermocline, once i find it, i'll troll at that depth using suspending rapallas, about 50-75 feet from the ball in the summer, 10-20 feet behind the ball in the spring, and fall. if the stripers are finicky i like purple, or glow squid, behind a small dodger, i've nailed some nice browns on squid. i use the old style thunderstick jr. for walleye, the thundersticks i use are from storm lures, not the new ones made by rapalla. the perch color is the best color most of the time. i'll troll at 3-5 mph at the ball with stick bait, a little faster with a dodger. i don't use cannon releases, i use a release that a guy makes at tonowanda on the niagra. i use only fireline 12#, and a snubber with med. light 8 foot st. croixs. fireline doesn't belly as much as mono when running long lines. fireline doesn't stretch or soak up water like mono, so you need a lighter action rod. if it's too windy to keep the boat moving straight, i'll try to find the fish with electronics, anchor the front of the boat, and use 2 fly rods with just a split shot, and red worm. i use a 9 foot leader with sinking fly line. i drop them off the back of the boat, off the bottom, a foot or 2, and let the boat swing around with the wind, turn on the tv, and relax. i do good on walleyes. last year they dropped the lake so low, i had to take my boat out, so i fished onieda, in the channel between the buoys in front of costansia all summer. up there i use a lindy rig, with a red worm on a floating jig and drift.
