Weekend Tiger
« on: Feb 19, 2008, 09:02 AM »
Here is a photo of a nice tiger from last Saturday. To add info -
36" and estimated at 12 to 14 lbs because it was quite fat. It is swimming still in hopes of it getting to 20 lbs some day. Otisco Lake is correct. Caught on tip up with large Otisco shiner. Personally I think these big tigers not only have the shoulders of their purebred brothers but they are one of the sharpest looking fish out there.

That is an outstanding picture. You look like the cat that just swallowed the canary!  HAH !!!  I always thought those tiger muskies would make an awesome mount.
(you are going to have it mounted aren't you?)
Congratulations!

Have there been many 10lb plus fish caught this year. Or is everyone catching a lot of small ones.

So far this winter I have caught this one plus a fat 29" and a 31" both were probably in the 8 lb category. My son caught a beauty that was 38.5" and probably 16 or 17 lbs. He helped a guy land one last month that was 40.5"

The key is big bait, the bigger the better

Lobes, I would highly recommend Joe Greco, he does all of our fish work, and we have sent many people his way, his site is www.joestaxidermy.net He does the best fish mounts we have seen, and he is reasonable with his prices also. His repro's are $15 an inch, and they are better than most skin mounts I have seen. I currently have a pike and a perch there, ilikepike has his 23 and 3/4 lb pike there, his tiger musky that he is getting a replica of, a perch replica, adkbrookie's huge laker is finished, and that looks amazing. I could keep going but I'll stop with that :-) If you or anybody is going to go with his work, send me a pm and tell him josh cameron sent you

Ask your taxidermist (mine is on speed dial), the reproductions are very common these days . If he does not do them he/she will know some one who does. I have a 22 and 1/4" bullhead wall mount done and it looks awesome

I do quite a bit of Open water fishing for Northern Pike using minnows on the Mohawk River system. I've noticed that when I get carried away with the size of the bait (12"+ Suckers ect.) that I catch Tiger Muskies. I've taken 27" Tiger Muskies on 14" suckers!!! I've come to the conclusion that Tiger Muskies OFTEN prefer to eat a big meal and "Get it taken care of"; rather than mess around with smaller prey. That said, I've caught em' on regular size pike minnows also; it just becomes much more common when using the huge baits.
