Those Burbot are HUGE...do they normaly get that big. The ones we get out of Oneida Lake average 3-5 lbs. Well when they used to be plentiful. No one I knew ever ate them. When I was a kid in the late 70's and early 80's, they used to be littered all over the ice...left for the birds. I could never understand it. I hear of a lot of the Northern Folk say that they are delicious. I don't know though...I would definately try one :-\

they average about 6-8 lbs on this lake we catch several 10lb plus every winter though, better eating fish than walleye in my books.

Do you get the burbot in shallow alot? Normally a deeper fish around here. August, they are still pretty common late ice last year we couldn't keep them off in 20' of water around 130.

most of the burbot we catch are in less than 10 fow.  where we usually fish is a long way to the deeper water as well, about 2.5 miles to get into over 15 feet.

WOW! Those are some great looking pike!  Nice work!  By the way, how do you like the "cube"?  I have an Eskimo shanty very similar, but am looking to get one for a friend, and I am a big fan of the pop up shanty.

made our first trip out to tobin this year and made out ok, the temperature limited our fishing to afternoons mostly, would have been nice to log a few more hours and be a little more mobile.  we sure lost our fair share and landed some decent ones as well, nothing huge but not many fish under 10 pounds either.

Meadow, as usual awesome fish,  It's come to the point where everytime you post in here I dont want to look. I am completely envious of the fact that you have a lake thats full of freaks of nature by my standards and they seem to be the norm for you. You make me ponder moving there everyday. I even started practicing saying ehh..
