cant make ice when its 40 degrees out side.need some more very cold weather

Yes, but a nice 40 degree day will degrade the snow cover to a point that we can make ice. There is allot of snow on the ice right now, we need some of it to go away so the cold can get to the water.

It looks like we can look forward to 30's over the weekend.
I sure hope it hits a good melting temp.
We need to loose the snow to start making some ice outta that slush.

Can make much ice with 20" insulation on the ice. The snow's got to go.

That barometer has got to come down too! I know allot of you guys think is is a bunch of rubbish, but I can almost guarantee fish with a low pressure and a light west wind.

nope was just out the lake i was fishing still has 21" it was doing a lot of popping tonight but the temp was coming down too ..

I went out tonight and had the same as we did on Saturday, but that ice was popping and there were a few huge cracks. I know it's making ice, but those pops still make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I try to convince my Texan wife that those ice noises are good, but she wont believe me! In her defence, the last time she freaked out was on Mille Lacs. We all know that that ice can sound like the death roar of a dinosaur with a train wreck and a thunderstorm happening at the same time.

I think that is the coolest sound on earth!

I was outside all day. I kept chapstic on my lips all day and I still got a bleeding crack! OWIE! My hands are so dry my fingerprints are peeling off. I windburned my legs through carharrt jeans and long johns.

Even if the gathering isn't going to happen on Saturday, I am still taking the day off. I will let someone else do my work in the -45 windchill.

I may go try it in the morning if the wind is still from the west and the barometer is still low. I might pick up a few fish before the death cold comes!
