I have fished Cranberry Sat./9 Sun/10 and today. I will also be going out this evening. Yesterday caught 3 perch and 1 pike and had one take my rod, was not paying attention and two twitches and the rod went under. This morning caught 4 pike two of them were 25 inches and a nice 11inch crappie. The ice will not be safe after today but I do not think it will all melt away by the weekend when it should get colder. Sure is nice getting back on the ice!

you guys are braver than i am. many many years ago i went thru on high point when no one was around near the middle. at least at cranberry the water might not be over your head as it sound like one of the party tried winter swimming that day. If it or high point get safe ice hopefully i'll run across you guys there

I'm sure we'll cross each others path again dave.  Looking forward to it.

I'm retiring in 4 days and hopefully there will be ice shortly. I was up at cranberry sunday and there was very little ice, only under the trees on the south ? side. there were a few small pieces of ice floating but its back to square 1 up there

Hi lou:  I did climb up on the far bank on elk creek to try and look down into the creek to see if your rod would show up, but the only thing i saw was a wader gaiter laying along shore near the outflow pipe.

It doesn't sound like the somerset county lakes will have any ice for awhile yet. I'm sure if its safe i'll be out a few days a week at least and if theres no ice theres always steelhead. See you guys on the water somewhere

Dave, Thanks for the extended effort. I heard that someone snagged a rod in that vicinity the very next day. I never heard anything though. I hope it gives its new owner as much pleasure as it gave me. Thank goodness it wasn't an expensive rod, but it sure did catch fish. Gee, isn't life tough? Our alternative to ice fishing is going for "steel"!!  Although I have to admit, I still enjoy pulling a 12" perch or crappie up through a hole is hard to beat. Well Happy Holidays to you and your family and maybe Santa will bring us some ice!    Lou
