From Frigid to Whiteout to BOOYAH!
« on: Feb 15, 2015, 10:58 AM »
Arrived at the lake at 5am with a balmy -11 degrees! Met up with Porter, Ed, Craig for a decent action day. Porter had the hot holes most of the day. Craig was getting a good amount of action too. Ed managed to get a nice 5 pounder! My day started with a nice bass about 3lbs. I got a few more small bass during the day. The snow started to fall and the pond cleared out about 2:30ish. That's when things started heating up! The flags started popping about 3:30 and produced 4 beauties! From 3:30 to 4:15 I iced a 6.12, a 4.8 and 2 - 4pounders! I would say holding out for the "3:30 blitz" was worth it! I decided to skip the Sunday wind fest and work on my gear. Hope to see y'all again soon! Tight lines folks 👍

thanks, it wasn't too bad because the winds were low. Today's wind with yesterdays temps would have been insanely cold.

That is weird, what's more weird is your profile picture is you holding a bass lol  ;D I will assume you don't mind bass? I'm a bass angler, if other species bite I'm ok with that but prefer bass.

Thanks Jeff, you should join us next time 👍. My dad always hung out for the 3:30 blitz when I was a kid learning the sport.

Thank'ya, it made my season so far, allot of plow pile shoveling for pond access, marking old holes, packing down slush trails. It was worth my sweat :-) You should join us some time!

I don't mind the occasional bass it's when it's non stop bass that it gets to be a pain cause then I'm wasting bait because the lakes I fish you can't keep them. Wish we could since they taste better in the winter and it makes no sense to close the season all winter.... but I wish I kept that bass in my picture or caught it during bass season cause it would be on the wall... never weighed or measured it we figure it was in the 8# range. Wasn't thinking at the time but the biggest one I've caught by far and the biggest I've seen in person. Caught it Dec. 31st 2009 in a snow storm lol

Those are some nice fish both Keith and Ed. Congrats. I'm jealous. The only ice I've been able to chip through lately has been on my roof.  ;D
Hopefully before the season ends I'll get out again. Good work fella's!

Hey Kieth have you ever thought of using circle hooks?

I just wonder how many of them bleeders turn in to crayfish food??

I have been using circle hooks for pike with good success. I just know how fragile the pike fishery is.

I also know it take a long time for a bass to reach 6lbs.

Congrats on the fish you put alot of time in!

I wasn't aware of the bass rule in NY, that's crazy. Thanks for the info 👍 I would also estimate that in the 8+ range. My PB is 9.1 lbs.

Yea for most waters it's closed from December 1 to the Friday preceding the 3rd Saturday in June in most waters.... some waters you can keep them but not many and none of them are near me

it was actually hooked in the roof of the mouth, not much blood. I've tried those hooks, as well as many others I've fished with, we all agree they don't work as well. All the bass caught swam away strong! I try to hook them before they swallow the bait, on a small occasion they will but I use a good hook remover tool, not needle nose plyers that make it really difficult to remove the deep hooks.

Nice to get out with some IS guys, as always.  I'm glad the derby wasn't too crazy, provided some nice people watching between flags. Wish I coulda stuck around a little longer, but what can you do?  Great to meet porter, and was glad to see Ed land the nice larry.  And my feet didn't get wet  ;D
