It's a mess here, an inch of sleet turning to rain. The temp is right at 32, should make for good road skating.

So far so good... Couple inches snow and sleet... But not not much ice yet.. Its warming up now and supposed to turn to freezing rain and than all rain...

Good news Raquettedacker, the lakes must be cooling down nicely. Late January may still be in play on the bigger lakes up your way.

Hopefully our nights stay cold, we don't get any rain or fog. It was nice to finally have winter weather after this stretch of 60° days. As sick as it sounds it was nice to shovel.

26* and snowing.. Lake affect snow for us tonight which is a good and bad thing..
The snow will finish cooling the waters to there freezing temp. Thats good..
Bad is its going to destroy all the skim ice that has formed the past couple days...

Every year is different. Some years, ice before New Years, other years, ice doesn't happen until 2nd-3rd week in January.

Back in 2007, my son and I were jigging on Longmeadow on New Years Eve, standing on 5 inches of ice. Today, if I don't hit my tree stand, I will be on my boat, fishing open water on Quassy.

Patience Grasshopper, the ice will come.

Looks like temps around Lake Sacandaga have settled in nicely , maybe good ice for derby .

Not gonna get my hopes up but checked 2 little ponds today around 230pm and both were covered in very thin layer of ice. Monday and Tuesday look very very very cold. Might be able to get on Saturday or Sunday next week...

It was 25 in Danbury and on the way home I check how derby was and my car said 29 and back in Stratford it was 31. Not getting my hopes up either but I went to my buddies girlfriends house on cwood and she live in a cove and that had skim all already the edges about 40-50 yes out. Doubt it will ask tomorrow but a good thing to see. Then on the ride home we saw a pond that was completely cover with a good/great skim, if it holds until Monday or Tuesday it will def have a few inches next week.
