How many of you are done ice fishing for the season?
« on: Mar 06, 2013, 02:43 PM »
I keep my sled, auger, and ice fishing gear in my truck from the first day I go ice fishing until the last day I ice fish.  I still have everything in the bed of my pickup so I haven't quite surrendered yet!  I hope to get out a couple more times towards Pinedale, Fontenelle, or Viva Naughton.  However, when I fished Fontenelle earlier this week, the Green River looked mighty tempting!  Be safe as the season is winding down.

I also keep all my things going in the bed of my truck all winter locked up under my camper shell. Pretty risky leaving things back there. Locks only keep the honest people out. There a lot of money to be lost if somebody really wanted it I suppose.  On the other hand I have planned my last ice trip in two weeks till December comes again. I personally enjoy hardwater more than open water anytime... hardwater keeps most of the crazy lake crowds at home :)

I'm alll done, every bit in storage until fall.  Be sure to put staibill in the auger fuel and run dry.  Don't forget to pitch your minnows an sucker meat before they stink up all your gear.

Now to remember what worked well and what needs changed.

Going out to Morton lake with the new camper to try it out, but I believe this is my last trip.  Now to order the new prop for the boat that I broke in September and send off for the boat sticker and AIS all in one, then I think I am ready for the soft water fishing.  Cannot wait to use the new camper and see how it works, just picked it up yesterday.

I know that this sounds CRAZY, and I probably am... I have to miss this weekend for a trip to Vegas for the race...But I would almost trade the trip for another weekend on the ice. I sure hope that the weather holds for a couple more weeks. We have Viva Naughton for sometime still.

Still holding out on one last trip, Maybe  :-\ im guessing with 60deg temps in our forecast here i'll fire the boat up before i do the auger. It was great ice year, thanks for all the pics, posts & conversation everyone

As long as there is safe ice....and limited boat access...I see no reason to quit ice fishing...

I think I'm done. You boys are nuts. I enjoy any kind of fishing but I only ice fish until I can be casting or trolling a lure in the warm weather! I hit the North Platte while I was in Casper yesterday (Thursday) for state bball. Caught 4 from 2:00 til dark. Not bad!

When hell freezes over, I’ll ice fish there too!

Put the ice gear away for the season,  getting some open water stuff ready to go wet a line over the next few days.

Not finished yet. We still have some good ice and I think last year it was around the 20th of March before I quit. Without owning a new boat just yet will have to cover as much good ice as I can until its gone...

Cheers!

Wow it must be a lot warmer where you guys are to be firing up the boats already. Mine is still covered in snow I probably won't take it out till the end of April at least but I'm going on my last ice trip on Sunday then it's off to do some snow goose hunting and remember why I don't like the drive from Pinedale to Torrington lol but it should be fun!

I'm dreading the end to the season, but down here across the border from the Cowboy state, we still have 25" of ice in the high mountain lakes of North Park.  Was up there yesterday and caught a FAT piglet rainbow out of North Delany.  My 10 year-old grandson is coming down from Calgary at the end of the month, and I am really hoping to get him on the ice a time or two before I dig out the flies and fly rod.
There is no such thing as bad weather - only bad clothing.
