You may want to call up there and check on ice conditions as i believe bitter opened up last week and they received a decent amount of snow that may affect the ice formation.  If you do head up, please let us know how you do.  I plan on heading that way over christmas. Thanks

That is awesome news, thanks for the info.  You cant beat the jumbos that that area produces.

this came from another post
5-6 inches on Bitter in most places close to shore today.

Didnt venture out too far, just enough to catch some eyes and perch.  Most of the snow has blown off, I would say there is 4-5 inches on the lake at most.  The wind with the snow kept the open water open until sunday night when it got calm and froze everything hard.  -17 on Monday morning - so it froze good and is still making good ice.

I am sure you will see ATV's on the ice this weekend (not mine though, I have a big pair, but they arent BRASS!!).

Let us know how you do! I've been told that's a great place to go for some ice fishing and I think that I'll be heading that way this year to get my fish on! Not sure how much NE ice we're going to get, but I may go up there for a couple days for my first ice fishing trip if we don't get any ice soon. If anyone's going back that way in a couple weeks let me know, I may be up to come along :p

If the ice does not get really good at the refuge, we will be in Webster the same dates. Perhaps a Nebraska get together in South Dakota.

lmfao....forgot all about that. I would say it was more like one snowbear  yelling at another snowbear.   ;D

Looks like somebody landed on 'em!

Whenever somebody refers to a skinny, 10-inch perch as a "jumbo," I think of fish like the ones that you have stacked on the ice and go, "Nah-h-h-h. . ."

Eyedoc.......

Bring lots of gas.......hit the bait shops for areas the drill your butts off......last year I had to drill close to 75 holes before finding perch...then it was all over with in 30 mins.......but well worth the effort........

Good luck .........

i just dont get it.......

I get it...they took a once a year trip to South Dakota with a group of friends, caught some awesome fish.  Kept them and will eat every single one of them.  The picture is something they will be able to look back at in 15 years and reminisce about the fun they had.

You shouldnt have a problem with anything done LEGALLY.

i have no problem with them, the fish or the pic. i just dont get how them lakes are chock full of huge perch and other fish year after year with all the pressure they get. i think ya took my post the wrong way fish-icer.....just outta curiousity whats the daily limit on perch up there? im guessing 20 or more but really i have no clue. that looks like a blast!!!
