Meadowlark is fishable
« on: Nov 29, 2012, 11:01 PM »
Myelf and Blackice fishing went to meadowlark today up on the big horns and we did really well, we each got a limit of nice rainbows to smoke tomoro and we turned back about 3 limits to swim free  It was a really nice day and I will try and get some pics on here tomoro. The bait of choice was a mix of PK's and pink jigs with a pink blood worm body in about 10 fow. ice is 7 inches of good hard ice and about 10 inches of snow on top. We had a blast and will be doin it again soon I hope lol

What part of the lake? At the boat ramp at sitting bull or over by the ski area?

Do'nt be afraid to take some worms up there. Growing up in Ten Sleep fished there often. Sometimes worms were the only bait that they would look at.

A buddy and I will be heading up that way this weekend, I am new to the area and have never fished it.  Any pointers on what part of the lake to be on would be greatly appreciated!

Or you could do what I did. Did not pull the trigger during deer season then 4 days after season was over took one out with my car. :(

The fishing regs lists the bodies of water that minnow are allowed on if i remember right. So if its not on the list then minnows are a no go!

http://wgfd.wyo.gov/web2011/Departments/Fishing/pdfs/WYFISHINGREGS_1213_BROCHURE0000715.pdf page 27. Each area of the state, states at the end with what areas baitfish are permitted. And in both areas, on both sides of the Bighorns, neither list Meadowlark as being permitted. The list i was thinking about earlier is the one that mentions what bodies of water have special ice fishing regulations. Hope this helps.

I do believe they are not allowed. The Big Horn River and some of the lakes in the Big Horn Basin minnows are allowed.

The ski area is open. I believe they opened this weekend. I personally never have caught any real big trout out of there but the fishing fantastic on smaller brookies and rainbows. I would imagine there are some nice browns in there if a person gets lucky enough to tie in to one!
