TEAM Ontario - G2G #1: Sharbot Lake
« on: Dec 29, 2010, 10:26 AM »
It seems there has been some demand for a few G2G's this season, the two most popular locations have been Sharbot Lake and of course the bay of Quinte. Im recommending that we set up two different dates.

Date: January 22nd
Time: 8:00am - 3pm

Meeting place: Boat Launch on Hwy#38 (Near Restaurant)

http://maps.google.ca/maps?client=safari&rls=en&q=sharbot+lake&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Sharbot+Lake,+ON&gl=ca&ei=I2EbTaTSEZGfnwesyvSqDg&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQ8gEwAA

Once the meeting place has been determined a map will be provided. Please wear any IS gear you own, and we will try to get a group photo in as well.

Please use the poll to sign up, as well as post, so I can make sure the info gets to all those who need it.

Welcome to IceShanty, team Ontario is just us, a group of Ice Shanty members who are from Ontario, and the G2G is a get together of as many Ontario fisherman that can make the trip.

If you are from the Sharbot lake area, maybe you can help us decide on a starting place, and a good place to get on the lake

Look at area's that have good structure, points/humps/shoals ect.. (get yourself a map of the BOQ) Locating eyes is half the battle. Walleye's are finiky and what may have worked yesterday will not always work the next day. Some productive lures to have in your box are Mr.Champs, Pimples, Sidewinders, Jigging Raps ( tipped with a minnow head),Northland Live-Forage Minnow and Buckshots.

Some areas that are producing are Big Island, The Narrows,The Reach,Northport Shoal, Mouth of the Trent.

Hope this helps,
Randy

Alright guys the first G2G is fast approaching, I still need some support from a member who can provide us with a good meeting spot? Anyone have launch of roadside directions for a good spot to hit the ice?

Hello everyone

I am still very interested in this and I will be there.

I did some quick research and found out that there is a boat ramp right at the narrows where Hwy#38 crosses the lake.

I also found this site with some contour maps - http://www.sharbotlakecottage.com/directions/index.html

I think ideally launching off the Provincial Park would be ideal... but is it open?

I might try to rent something on the lake and this might give us a spot to work out of or at least a place to park.  Looking forward to some local input though.

The provincial park is closed.  There is a launch right on 38 but has very limited parking.  I think there is a restuarant close by that has a parking lot but not sure if they would allow parking.  I have only fished sharbot once in open water so not sure about the parking situation.
Any locals on the board that can help out with this?
We need an access point with parking.  Also not sure which side of the lake is better for icefishing. I would assume the west side, seems to have more drop offs and access to deep water.
What species are people interested in?  Myself would be walleye and pike?

Im good for anything not really picky, walleye and pike are great, perch, and other pannies are also good.

Anyone help us here? I know a few guys posted earlier that they fish the area?

I say we worry about parking when we get there. The boat launch off 38 looks to hold some potential looking at a map of sharbot on the west side of the lake. Is everyone still in? I got the day off work!

Ya there are some spots at the launch just not sure if its plowed or if it fill up on weekends, I just don't want to drive an hour and not have a place to park, plus I have my cousin, bobbyz04, who is driving 400km up to kingston for the weekend so I want to make sure this is event is a go otherwise I need to find another lake to go to.

I'm still in if everyone else is. I say we decide on a meeting place. There is at least 20 other backup lakes within 20 min of sharbot lake if need be. There is bait in town on highway 38.

I say we meet up at the launch on #38 If we move from there so be it, but it is an easy meeting spot.

bring the extra seat I may be joining you in the yukon, its suppose to be -26 with the wind chill.

According to a couple of the maps I have seen there are some walleye spots within walking distance of the launch on the west side.  Anybody ever fish sharbot in the winter?

I was told by a coworker to head out from the beach just south of the boat launch. We can all park on the side of the road, Parking allowed. The point just off the beach is where he told me we should try there.
