Honestly I think with ice fishing if you pick a spot for the winter, its almost first come first serve. I have fished the relative same area of Blackstrap for 7 winters and I dont get upset if someone is where I wanted to be. Ice Fishing shouldnt be a nasty, vengeful sport where some think that you took their "spot". The lakes are big, fish swim all over.
Easy now Big Gunner. We're talking about fishing here. The best part of life. The thing we do to get away from the crap that assaults us from all sides daily. The peaceful part. The reason you need a shack in the first place.
Maine guy and Michiana guy. Please back up a little and read the whole thread. You really should become more informed on the topic before you 'break-in' and say nonsense about what is indeed an issue to be discussed, as mentioned, by reasonable men. No one is talking about vandals. I could maybe see you getting touchy if I had labelled it 'Squatter's Rights' vs the 'Right to Bear Arms'. I believe that it has been acknowleged that a locked shack means keep yer distance(or else) but I was asking for a better answer, if you care to read back, than "because I'll shoot you".
I just want to make sure you caught the bit about the snow, Aqua. The wind blows it around so a circle of drifts forms around the shack a little distance away and then I come along and drill a hole or 2 right behind the shack so I can fish out of the wind and next time you come out you spend half your day chopping it out. As for locked/unlocked the problem we had wasn't necessarily with strangers: our friends were just as bad. They'd drive out, make a mess, burn all our firewood, (never mind that I had to drag it all out on a toboggan), and when they finally brought a few sticks of wood out they made a big production out of it. Now I'm a Johnny-no-shack, but ya doesn't have ta call me Johnny!
Did I say that I am enjoying my new shack?
