Ok.... How about an Iditerod ice fishing hybrid marathon?  You know, dogsleds from lake to lake over 1000 miles. I like the fillet arena idea so that could be at each fish area.

How about a gold medal for the guy who can drink the most cans of beer before any slush shows up in the brew. For this obviously we need to get out there when its about zero, and keep it fair the cans sit right on the ice in plain view. No foreign objects keeping the beer from freezing longer than it should take.

Hold this event first, and see how many events take place after it.
The Ultimate Warrior is possessed with great power from the heavens above ! Against the mighty lake trout and pike and schools of crappie, the power of the WARRIOR will always ......... PREVAIL !!!

I think you are confusing ice fishing with outdoor beer drinking

So some guy runs 26.2 miles and now an activity is The olympics poster sport

If a bunch of mopes can snow board their way on to the wheatties box, so can we . Just got to get organized

I presume that most of you know that the USA is represented at the World Ice Fishing Championship? This year it was held in Poland and USA was rpresented by Bussain, Boshold, Mcnet and others. Word is that a future champioship might be held here in the good ol' USA.
80% of Americans are unhappy with the direction our once great Country is heading. Yet 80% of Americans insist on buying blue jeans that were made in China, coffee filters that were made in Taiwan and anything else that was made anywhere but here........wonder if there might be a connection?

But in what state or area should we hold it?

I can see it now...146 fat guys huffing their sleds into the frozen abyss.....trumpets sound with the strains of the Olympic theme........the fat guys come to rest at their chosen spots......they don their gloves....with hands at the ready they grasp their starter cord handles....

The report of the starter pistol signals...the augers roar to life.....ice shreds.....holes drop.....lines hit the water and bullet to the bottom.....grills are lit....sausage and venison backstraps hit the fire and sizzle wildly....

The fat guys settle to their respective buckets, coolers of Heineken (it's my dream) at their side....the tops pop.......

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Before this season I would have agreed that ice fishing is not a sport. After draging all my stuff through all this dang snow this year I think I have changed my mind!

i think the swedes would give us (usa) a run for the money but im sure if there was smome sort of formula used in the scoring somthing like
beers consumed per hour
plus number of fish caught
divided by avg length of fish
us americans might have a fair shot at winning the golden perch
dude, it looks like you painted black stripes on the backs of the baitfish!

shotgun 6 beers...put your forehead on an auger handle and spin 20 times..then sprint 40 yards and try to drop a jig down a 4" hole...picture that for some youtube footage!

They should not make it an olympic sport.

Then I would have to watch, instead of going ice fishing.

I would like to see the look on the figure skater's face after they hit an 8" hole drilled in the rink.

Might have the Zamboni driver scratching his head too!    ;D

I think I would if they held the auger contest on their rink just before they came out...lol
