Thanks for the clarification... ;)

the way it's worded is still confusing, but the way I understand it is.....no live bait means just that.....period   ???

I've read it several times, and granted it seems confusing...IFW needs to clarify it, like so many of their laws and regs..

while i will for the most part stay out of this "debate", using that term loosely, i feel the need to clarify one key point that some seem to miss

the proposed bill isn't about restricting methods, keeping one "class" of fisherman out (let's see...in the past year i'ce caught all maine species of coldwater fish save bluebacks on the fly, as well as pike, SMB, LMB, pickeral and other assorted species, i've flung flies to stripers, chunked bait for stripers, landed macks & blues (also on the fly) and ice fished for pretty much all of those same freshwater species....i've shot ducks, geese, grouse and trudged through the woods looking for deer......please tell me which line i need to get in if we are dividing us all into groups???)

this bill is about protecting the last best population of wild brookies in the united states

forrest bonney and other biologists have identified bait introductions as well as other invasives as a major threat to that population

this bill is a "live bait ban" as some paint it; it is a means to protect brookies from a threat our own biologists have identified

i just don't see what is so complicated about that one simple, salient point

back to hiding......drove by the tacomas & sabattus today....whitecaps on sabattus, nothing but open water everywhere but the little backwaters in the weeds....

Budda that’s what I use.  I keep them in my pocket so they don’t freeze. If you don’t keep them in your pocket and they do freeze you can always put them in your mouth to thaw them. At least that’s what some boys from Vermont told me. ;D ;D

The way the climate is changing and the way land is being developed I think brook trout will be doomed long before bait will do it in.We all know this bait restriction was started a few years ago by the ffo boys. Why doesn't the state ever do something about development around these brook trout waters???Lets blame bait fish, pollution and development are OK.Next the brook trout will be an endangered species and you will not be able to fish for them!!!You have a better shot **censored**in against the tide than saving the wild brook trout!!

JHM

since you seem to disagree with Forrest Bonney, just thought I'd inquire as to where you fisheries biology training is from?  ;D

I'm sure that Forrest Bonney will be thrilled that he is being blamed for this.  ;D

If it was "for the fish" then we would stop fishing for them alltogether... No? That dog don't hunt.

Them boys have been fishing up there with bait for a couple of hundred years? Never been a problem... Maine has the best brook trout in the USA. Hummmm ??? Where is the problem again?

You guys that support this anti-bait incrementalism can keep trying to paint things with different brushes but the facts are the facts. Here we are again, less than a year after you same folks told us not to worry. You same guys said it is "for the fish" and you are back at the well again. Nobody is trying to divide the sporting community but you.

When was the last time you heard of a group of bait fisherman trying to ban fly fishing.

I will also add that if the bios wanted this they could implement it a load more easily than the legislative process that you guys are taking...

Slow down boys... In Context I said

To clarify, I never said anybody in this thread was dividing the community but it sure was suggested that I was... What I said is that the people that are pushing this incrementalism are the ones that divide. Even if that is not their intent. Are you suggesting that you are part of the group pushing this agenda?  ??? Now I'm confused...
