Ford? Chevy? GMC? Toyota? Pick up Trucks
« on: Jan 14, 2014, 06:22 PM »
I am contemplating getting a new truck. I am curious to know what y'all drive for a truck and why you prefer yours over other brands.  My truck is 11 years old with 197, 000 miles. I've put 700.00 into it in the last 3 weeks , now it's bogging and losing power! I really don't want to keep dumping money into a vehicle that may be beyond worth fixing up. THE TRADE IN IDEA WAS MY WIFE'S! lol so that's a huge bonus! Thank You in advance for any replies!!! 👍

Keith..That old Ford Expedition I had I put 297k miles on it and it's still on the road. Just didn't trust it towing my 25ft boat back and forth to the coast and cape all the time. Gave it to my dad and he's got another 15k on it so far!

That being said I just bought a Chevy Avalanche 2500 with the 8.1 liter engine and Allision Transmission. The most powerful truck I have ever owned.

2014 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport I love it fast powerful and built for off road , I tow my bass boat with it and you cant even tell its hooked up.... It is only a v6 but I was very impressed with it so much that I bought it.... this is coming from the guy who dumped bout three grand in modifications in his previous dodge ram  and was a power junky. All in all if your looking for a mid size truck that is built stock for off road and great on gas the Tacoma TRD sport or off road is it check them out. P M me Keith if you need more info on it

They are made in the United States to as a matter of fact Toyota has a number of plants throughout the US  and Canada.... lol just saying
Drill um and fill um........

Keith, just curious if you are open to other options other than a truck?

I just bought a new Hinda Insight Hatchback (hybrid) for 17k. I got it because of all the driving I do, and makes those longer trips for fishing more affordable. I get about 55mpg out of it.

With the back seats down I can fit all my ice fishing gear, flip over (the one you saw last week), and my power auger. My box also fits easily with tons of room to spare when i dont need my flip over.

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

I am a Chevy guy for the last 25 years. In fact I sold my 1989 chevy 1 ton truck last year and the guy is still plowing with it. I have always had good luck with 7 out of the 8 chevys I have owned. One needed a tranny. Chevy and GMC are basically the same. Fords are also solid trucks too. I will never own a Toyota. Use Kelly blue book and NADA to help out with pricing. Good luck.

Yes, it sounds like an Insight will fit nicely in the bed of that new truck. You can deploy it like an aircraft carrier, probably drive it right out on the ice!

Ive got 2 chevy dump trucks and 2 chevy pick ups never have any serious issues with them other then routine maintenance and they get used and abused.  If your thinking used 02-07 are the best years as far as quality, I just got a 13 and noticed the price went up and quality went down. I have diesel dumps but wouldn't never suggest a diesel pickup unless you plan on keeping it the rest of your life. They are way over priced and the fuel economy is the same as the gas basicly. Fords look cool but I don't feel they last as long.

I'm only interested in a pick up truck, 8 foot bed, little extra cab for coats, boots, fishing poles etc. I have a 6' bed full 4 door 6 passenger pick up now. I'd rather have the longer bed and less seats.

Keith go look at a Tundra, then take one for a test drive. You'll be driving one home I'm sure. I've had 2 Tacomas, nice trucks but a little small for my liking I wanted a bigger truck but not the T-100 when the Tundras came out in 2000 I bought one great truck, got 210,000 on it and was time for a new one. I bought another Tundra 4.7 I Force TRD awesome truck. I think Porter still drives a Tundra ask him, but I'll stick with Tundra's and made here in the USA.

Keith - stop driving thousands of miles to go fishing!!! ;D

I have a GMC. Its my third.  Love em.  However I'm considering a Ford for the next one because of how Ford didn't take the bailout money from the govt a few years ago and were able to recover.
