Erie Metro Park
« on: Jan 09, 2009, 09:43 PM »
Were going out of Lower Erie Metro Park. I called, they said 10" of ice. The perch were hitting a  mixed bag, some small some large we will know soon. :)

Report: WE got skunk about 35 to 40 shanty's and no fish. Some guy said we were a day to later that he had caught 33 keeps (perch) yesterday. 10 inch's of good ice. We didn't even mark much fish, I guess that's why they call it fishing. maybe next week. ;)

The Park marina is typicaly a hit or miss area. I would go on a day when the wind is calm or out of the east. When the wind is Westerly the water level will go down and the ice as well. Seems that the better fish are there when the water is up. Just my 2 cents. You can always call Bottomline Bait and or the Park office to see how windy it is before you make the trip.

It's in a marina just park and pull your stuff about 30 yards out on the ice. The shanty's are lined up like cordwood down the center of the canal. just pick a spot and good luck.

I was out there two weeks ago in a blinding snow storm and caught perch  from 9:00am until about 2:00pm. Brought home 22 nice eaters. Threw back maybe 10. Everyone was catching that day. Stay out of the main channel. Fish around the docks close to the seawall. Most fish were caught on minnows, the rest on red spikes. ;D

bring your electronics the ice is really thick and there is only like foot 1/2 of water to fish below the ice. set your sonar half way down the whole so it marks the bottom of the ice and the bottom and fish between that. i used a palm rod and a mud bug packed with 3 to 4 colored spikes(red). walked with 6 was only there an hour and a half. very lite bite

1/2 foot of water to fish?  It's 5 feet deep almost everywhere in the marina. There is or was about 2 feet of ice leaving a good 3 feet to fish. Last I heard yesterday there were still about 18 inches of ice. either way it is hit or miss. I see alot of people bounce around all over drilling holes all over the place with there power augers and all they do is move the fish around to the people that stay put. I've noticed that the fish swim basically in a big circle there. So i've found that staying put is one of your better options or up against the wall.
