Not sure about the crappie on Devil.  Supposed to be some big pike in there.  I would expect there is also good perch too.

Perch fishing isn't good. Pike get them before the mature. I have tried for years to get perch during open water and never much success

Just moved to Kingston area and was very happy to discover this site and this thread on lakes in the area!  Thanks for the great info!

I'm Primarily a walleye fisherman by winter and bass by summer but anything on a line will do just fine.  I'm looking to get out fishing in the area ASAP so this gives me a few leads.  Looking for fishing partners too.

Question: I've seen many previous posts on bait shops but what is the current situation?  where are the reccomended bait shops in the Kingston area that sell minnows in the winter.

three and a half options:
The white house just off highway 38 near Parham (turn off at the little sign)
Boundary Bait and Bow on harrowsmith road near Sydenham
South Frontenac Rental, on Colebrook road west of harrowsmith
Ive heard of CT selling some minnows so that's the half.

Further north you got Norris' by Westport and past that I don't know.
Hope this helps!
Cheers
Albert

Brown Bear tackle in kingston is the best option IMO. $6 a dozen and they give you a great count. I was in a couple of days ago and they had some small muds and med size suckers.  Very lively, I bought some back in Dec and with water changes every couple days they lasted until I ran out, over a month.

Catch All, formerly Mark's Bait shop in Battersea has minnows.  They sell three sizes.  I think they're open 7 til 4 everyday.  They're on Battersea road about 1 km south of the Hamlet.  Big sign on the West side of the road- it's a log cabin.

Great Thanks!

Anybody getting any eyes around Kingston?  Any thoughts on what time of day they are biting and depths?

Hey Guys,

I was just down to Brown Bear Tackle Box on Development Dr.  Awesome spot.  A real Mom and Pop operation.  Met the owner and he was a really nice guy.  Includes a Military discount and he gives a little extra of the dozen.  ECB was right though, those little suckers are just swimming in my container.  Very lively.

Hey Kingston Back Lake Anglers,

For those looking for crappies on Verona Lake try these spots. They have produced some good sized slabs. The crappie population in Verona Lake move around quite a bit but they show up in this 4 spots quite regularly.

Good luck

Ever wonder what a fish sees just before you pull him through the hole in the ice. Having fun with my GoPro camera!

No shortage of fish on Verona Lake! The bite has been hard and fast. Using a different approach this year and fish 3+ feet off the bottom. More bites and bigger fish!

The snow is quite manageable. Easy to drive out on the lake.

That's a really cool picture from under the ice!  I'd frame that and put it on my wall.

I have my shack out there, a friend told me that if I go across the lake from the water street entrance to the white house that there are walleye there...any truth to this?  I'm happy with my wormy perch, but eye's would be nice too!

Verona Lake was all the fishing talk at work today.  Lots of wormy perch apparently.  I'd also like to find some pickerel.

Slayer, where do you get the depth map like that???  is that an App??

Thanks.  I used my GoPro camera to take the picture from under the ice.  Great way to pass some time when the bite is slow.

Hey Caygeon,

The depth map was made with a program that I have and it uses slg data collected from my fishfinder when I am on the lake.  I have made several maps of lakes where you can not easily get bathymetric maps.  I have produced Verona, Howes, 2nd Depot and a few other lakes.  The maps have proven to be highly accurate for structure.  I can then load the map into my gps equipped fishfinder or I can even download it into a GPS equipped smartphone.

Hey 9am53,

During this time of year the walleye can be caught in 3 spots: directly out from Water St. towards the White House and between there and the creek entrance; out in the 40ft hole about middle of the lake; and up near the north end of the lake in the 20ft area.  Last walleye caught from the lake was 5lbs the other day close to the White House.

Hope this is useful.

Great day on Verona Lake yesterday with my long-time fishing buddy Jerry. Caught a 5lb pike and a lot of perch between 10" and 14" long. Great day !

I went there last night, lit up my newly welded up woodstove, and quickly had to go home as the paint fumes burning off were too much lol.  No fish, but the stove gets nice and hot at least!

Some people have been asking about whitefish in the Kingston area.  There are 4 lakes in the greater Kingston area where you can catch whitefish: Bobs Lake, Crow Lake, Devil Lake and Eagle Lake. Eagle Lake is good but lakers can be quite active for an out-of-season fish - hahahah!  The deep hole in Crow Lake holds whitefish, as well, Bobs Lake has some good whitefish in the deep holes.  Devil Lake has whitefish as well but they are a little more elusive.  Hope this is useful.

Yeah, the fumes were bad!  I plan on being there tomorrow morning for V day with the wife, hopefully I can crank the stove with no stink as she wouldn't be happy bucket fishing! (I can't complain though, v day ice fishing is about as good as I can imagine it)
