I'd say more than that - I've seen shallow ponds on a calm, cold night with temps below 10 or 5 degrees gain .75 - 1" - depends on the pond as some have current/springs etc.

I'd like to hear other people's experiences here.... :tipup:

I dont know for sure but i will say on nights where it gets single digits here the river/stream down the street gets skim ice in a few slow moving areas. That should tell you alot...

It depends on the layer on top too.  If the snow can act as an insulator.

no snow clear ice i have seen over an inch form in a night, and i've also seen heavy snow cause a loss.

doesn't matter, most north west water is safe now

I chop my traps out each day or some times after two days so I get to see ice form often.  On a good cold night I have measured 2" of ice in the 24 hour period since I last checked and cleared my trap holes.  Not scientific, just anecdotal.

Ive seen the wind open up a hole at quaddick that was 3 inches thick the day beforewith temps way below freezing,just from the friction.
