Wilson Harbor Ice
« on: Dec 29, 2008, 09:10 AM »
Anyone have an update on the ice at Wilson Harbor since this freekin' heat wave came thru this weekend?????  We were able to get out on Christmas Eve during the day before the rains came, but by Friday, the shore ice was iffy and the creek was pumping muddy water into the harbor from the runoff.

I was out for the afternoon today with the BlueGill Babe - 4-5 inches depending where you were in the back bay. Only about 2 inches around the red marker and headed back to the lake. Caught a few gills and some bass - didn't keep any. Some nice fellas gave me some minnows (with receipt - how sweet) , but didn't catch anything on them. Seems that waxies were the ticket today. The launch area might be fishable by the weekend. Probably sooner if not a lot of people on it (physics 101 - weight on ice creates cracking).

did worse than you, 1 dink perch  :( Good to be out for the first time this season tho! No one seemed to be venturing east of the launch, is the ice still too thin out that way?  plan to try again tomorrow.

caught a couple dozen perch, only 6-7" though, 1-10". A northern grabbed my waxie, fought 10mins or so on 4lb line, got the better of me and snapped. used green glo w/silverback 3" off bottom. They seemed pretty fussy.

OFF RT 18 IS AN ENTRANCE TO PARK. IT IS NOT ON YOUR MAP. OFF TO THE LEFT ON YOUR MAP YOU CAN SEE THE PARKING LOT IN A HORSESHOE SHAPE.
