Pemmi 12/26

Got out there at 6:30. Caught tons of tiny yellow perch and pickerel. Ran into a few crappie in deeper water. I feel lucky to have got any having never fished there before. Met onehook out there, nice to meet ya onehook. It was 6 degrees at 6:30 and the arctic armor performed great. Met a guy as I was leaving who says the best crappie fishing there is at the end of the day...hmm.

Did you happen to hear a double BEEP BEEP at 2:06pm? That was me. I was driving home from Waukewan and past a group of people on the water near that mobile home park by the public parking. I gave the "I just caught a 20''; 3+ pound rainbow" honk!

Is that about an hour and a half drive from the portsmouth area? Do you go Rt. 4 to Concord and up or do you up 106?

Yeah, an hour and a half. I go up the spaulding to Rt 11. I like the ride better and it's the same time.

I didn't hear the beeps. I left at 1. Congrats on the bow...nice fish. ;)

Here are a couple pics of that Rainbow. They were taken with my phone. My cameraman Pipes didn't have his camera on him. It was a beauty. I didn't have a tape or a scale. I used my skimmer to measure. It only went up to 16'' and it was well over that. I would estimate the weight at 3 lbs--3 1/4 lbs. He was a fat boy. He was one slimy fella too. I could barely hold him. It was my biggest Rainbow through the ice. It was a male. I was seriously thinking about keeping him and throwing him on the grill but I sent him home.

I got to the tip up he was on and he took out a bunch of line. I started to retreive the line and it got stuck! I pulled as hard as I could and it was still stuck. I let the line go and allowed him to take more of it out to sea. I figured the line was gonna break either way, so I decided to really haul on it. The line free'd itself and the fish started running right at me. He got to the hole and my jaw dropped. It was an awsome catch. 3 flags in 6 hours of fishing. He was one of them.

Thanks. I was trying to get a better grip on him. I had already dropped on his face a couple times. He was fiesty!

My buddies are fishing that same spot right now. Another beast was supposedly caught. Pipes, the camera man from yesterday caught it. They said it was big.

I used some of their eyes for bait, the rest I let go. Couldn't keep them off my lines. I think the biggest one was 5". Caught them right off the launch maybe 75 yards out.
