Most Versatile Lure/Jig
« on: Dec 21, 2008, 06:27 PM »
Lindy's #8 Genz Worm would be my choice if I had to pick a lure to put in my pocket and go to war or play survivor. This was a hard choice as I'm privy to Northlands 3/8 Buck-Shoot Rattle Spoon (Super Glo Perch). Horizontal or Vertical?.?.? Gentlemen picking my top 2 wasn't easy as the #4 luminescent Super-Glo hook on a slip rig has been a promising set up for me as well amongst others. Register/Boast about your go to rig and if Shanty Iowa ever has a successful year to year outing - at new location each year of course; it might make for an interesting side derby for a purse, bragging rights, etc. Sound off! Vendors save your breath for the retailers and trade shows- nothing personal just looking for unbiased opinion and dialogue here. What's your #1 fellas?

A red Rat Finkee size 12 is the jig I cannot live without.  I have caught bluegills, crappies, perch, largemouth, and even a channel cat on this jig.  I am still not sure what the catfish was thinking.   ???

hook and sinker catches me a lot of fish.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

#1  Ratso (size 12..usually in chartreuse but keep a bunch of other colors handy)
#2  Kastmaster spoon.....silver/blue

both lures catch about any species I'm targeting in any body of water (lakes, ponds, reservoirs) in Iowa

Chartreuse rat finkee is #1, followed by a plain hook and sinker under a bobber.

A hook and a split.  So when I'm using a Chubby Darter that is considered horizontal fishing.  I guess I learned something today, doubtful terminology like that will ever be used by myself  since the line is in a vertical position. ???

Verticle/Horizontal refers to the way the hook hangs.

something like a moon glow or teardrop are vertical, Fat Boys, Genz worms, rat finkies are horizontal.

My go to baits are a #12 neon bobber fry and a #10 glow red fat boy.

sweedish pimple seems to be somewhat universal. just pick a different size for different sized fish from crappies and perch to lake trout

Jigging Rap is the #1 choice in my book.  #2 & 3 are tough choices.  ratso. pink&white.  The new Bro bug.  I just cant seem to put that bro bug down

Color seems like it could be a topic of its own as well...whether it's green chartreuse or a silver shiner. Remember you got one pick and it could be a matter of eating or going hungry! In the end maybe its not about the jig/lure or color but the technique behind it?
