Got my new Fish Trap Pro - have ? on it
« on: Jan 23, 2004, 02:57 PM »
I recently ordered a Fish Trap Pro and just received it today.  I'd like to use it this weekend, so I'm hoping that I can get home and have time to assemble it.  My question is, is it relatively easy and straightforward to assemble?  If not, what kind of difficulty did you encounter and how did you go about solving it.

Thanks a lot!

Get busy. I think it will only take an hour or so. I have something you can put on it to make it classier.

Thanks Ken.  You're the man!  I'll see you tomorrow.  We should be in your area by 8.  If you want to convoy up and need to leave earlier, we could get our butts out of bed earlier.  I'm still at work but will begin assembling the monsterosity in about an hour.

I'm pumped.  I won't be freezin' my arse off tomorra!

The chili is awesome... brought a little to work for lunch.  My best yet.

Boy:
Be sure to have a variable speed electric screwdriver with a phillips
bit and a 7/16 wrench. There are a zillion screws with nylok lock-nuts.
Doing them by hand is a real chore.

The require very little to assemble.

7/16" wrenches
Battery screwdriver with phillips bit
1 1/2 - 2 hours
1-2 six packs ( depending on how many friends help)

Guy at Dick's told me it would take a 6-pack.  Drank half a beer at 9pm. when I got home with it .  3 hours later I was d0one with it.  It was tough for me.

A word of caution. Take your time with the trim that holds the canopy down to the sled in the front, it can be a pain in the arse, but worth doing right the first time.

Thanks everyone.  It took me about 3 hours constructing this and making chili at the same time.  The most time consuming part was reading the directions and getting familiar with the parts.  Knowing how to do it now, I think that the next time would be much faster.

I have to redo the trim canopy thing.  I took lots of time and thought that I had it right, but on the ice I had more slack than I would have liked in the front.  I constructed mine on the carpet in my living room.  I think having it done on a hard floor would have prevented this problem.  Shouldn't be to difficult to fix though.  The hardest part about that was punching those small screws through the metal in the trim.  Now that they are "predrilled", it should be easy.

Oh yeah, one other thing for people that have yet to construct this.  The directions give you the impression that the accessory holder that goes under the seat is a tray, like metal or plastic.  But, it's not, it's a soft black fabric thing.  Both my buddies didn't realize that and didn't install it, wondering what the black thing was for.  I figured it out before putting on the tent, so it was easy to add.

I love my new trap.  Can't believe that I didn't buy one years ago.

Thanks again.

Fat Boy ....you are exactly right about the sling ....I even called Clam and told the lady I was missing the tray .....she replyed the sled ......then she explained it to me ....I felt like a dork .....but  the directions do make it look like a rod tray .....I took mine out and went to LOWES and got a 36 inch window planter box and slid it in the sled in the front and keep my rods in there ....works like a charm ....plus it serves as a place to put those little trinkets ....glow busters , bait containers and clippers .....see you on the ice soon ....Mark Sirko

The rod hammack, is a great feature, helps keep those jigging rods organized. Get your self a Mr heater Buddy heater, and youll fish in total comfort, even on the coldest of days. Back of the heater stays cool so it wont burn your tent.
