« on: Jul 31, 2008, 09:20 AM »
bass pro markets a 5 gal. bucket with a padded swivel seat, styro cooler liner, and tray insert.
they're pretty nice, but does anybody know of another kind that might be better?
thanks

I have a "bucket buddy".  No swivel, but has a seat top, styrofoam bait bucket with lid, no tray (mine fits in it though) and it has a nylon bag going around it  which you can put all you tip-up's in.  The bag also has straps to tighten itself so your tip-up's don't fall out.

Although I always have my sled, I could definently go out on the ice with just the bucket buddy and a spade.

I went to the catalog site to look at the setup and could not find it. If you have a link to see it, throw it up.
I have seen the swivel seats but not the whole thing as a package.

As far as having a  full package, I think the 20-30 bucks for the different bucket buddies is well worth it.  Simply because a bucket at home depot is going to cost you 7$, the seat cover 5-15$, a foam bait bucket 4-8$, plus the nylon bag for tip-up's is valueable and a similar bag for tools will not hold the tip ups in place as the BB will.

As I said before, one of the best things of the BB is that you can pack everything you need for the day in that one bucket.  Then when it comes time to goto that secret spot deep in the woods you can hustle through the brush with your BB.. your bait, pliers, a couple cans of soda, a small bag of chips and a jig box all inside.  In the nylon bag you'll have your 5 tip-up's, a couple jig rods and your scooper. Top it off with your chopper in the opposite hand and you'll be catching fish while the other guys are still dragging their heavy sleds, and having branches knock all their stuff out.

I was at Walmart last spring and saw padded swivel bucket seats on clearence for 4 bucks. Thay had 6 of them, and now I have six of them. I got some 6 gallon buckets from the local Dunkin Donuts. They are a little taller than the 5 gallon, so it's a little easier on the knees. Don't know why I got all six but you never know. I took one fishing a few weeks ago, as soon as this guy saw it, he asked me if I was an Ice Fisherman? I guess the bucket gave me away.
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!
