Thanks Icesanty
« on: Mar 15, 2008, 10:42 PM »
When I logged into IS for the first time, I was relatively new at ice fishing. I had gone maybe 4 times total in my life, in the last 4 years actually, and had really enjoyed it. I decided to become more involved in it and needed somewhere to learn, Iceshanty fit the bill.
I asked some questions that a fella my age should probably have known the answers to, like "How do you fillet?' and "What is beer batter and how do you make it?" More importantly, I got answers..... along with maybe a little good natured ribbing, which is just as important in some cases. I learned as the season went along.
When I was frustrated early on with my lack of success, I posted it and was encouraged to keep trying and was given some tips to try. Sure enough, I eventually iced fish.
Well, what I am getting at is this:
Today my son came home on leave from the army. Only a couple of days, but he is home at least. I was able to cook him up a great meal, made possible ONLY because I am a member of this site. Fresh Crappie that I caught and filleted, beer battered and deep fried golden brown and perfect.

All done by myself..... and a few thousand friends. You guys rock!!

Ed, I'll see ya at 3 Mile. I think my son may be there as well. He is getting a medical discharge due to some problems from his time in Iraq. As soon as a date is set, I'm putting in for PTO at work so I can make the outing.

Something to do with his ankle. No military Doctor will operate on it due to the complexities of it, and it prevents him from doing PT and running, so he is getting the boot.

Big P,  I'm drooling on my keyboard.
Your boy should really enjoy the fruits of your labor.  Thank You for your part in our IS world because without people like you we wouldn't have such a wonderful forum.  I just wish there was an easy way we could all fish together(obviously not at once) and extend our friendship.  I am glad your son will return safely to you soon.  I work on a base and have many friends deployed that I worry about.  Please thank him for his service and sacrifices and maybe get him on IS.  He would surely be welcome.
