Finally broke the streak.
« on: Mar 10, 2008, 11:42 AM »
I haven't caught a fish for the last two hardwater seasons.  Finally broke the skunk run, a nice, fat 21", 3.5 lb (gutted) salmon.  Yeah Baby!
;D
Happy trails to you.......until we meet again....

Thanks.  It was a great morning Saturday.  I started off late, got to the boat launch at 8:30, met a buddy of mine who was leaving cause he had to take his son to a ball game.  Hussled out to the group and dropped a deep jig in the left hole for togue and fished shallow jig in the right hole for salmon.  Another buddy of mine was 10 feet over fishin his holes.  Half hour later, I got hammered in the deep hole, horsed him up, saw him swim by (togue) and was totally bummed when the pimple popped outa his mouth.  Well I got that out of my system.  Dropped the pimple back down to the bottom, two jigs later, BAM!  A nice 15" togue, released it and washed the slime off my hands, I love fish slime.  Ten minutes later, thought I hooked the ice on the right, couple more jigs, hit the ice again, weird; couple more jigs BA-BAM! Fish on!  Ten minutes later salmon ooutta the hole!  Yeah Baby! :o  My buddy ten feet over couldn't believe it.  He'd been there since 6:30, nuthin' to show for it  :'(.  Another friend was on the ice with us, he caught a little smaller salmon and then, an hour or so later hooked another.  He let his son reel it in, it fought for a good ten minutes but popped off under the ice.  I saw it swim by the hole a couple of times, nice salmon, looked longer than the one I iced.  I felt bad for the kid.  We'll have to get him out there again for another chance.

Now its all I can do to concentrate on work  ::).  Keepin' an eye out for the dropping pressure and overcast skies before the storm, gears in the car, headin back out (this time with the tourney card) to get another one.
Happy trails to you.......until we meet again....

March is my favorite time of year to be out jiggin up the silvers.  Nothin' like gettin a little sun and the excitement of a strike.  I'm usually zoning on auto-jig-pilot after a half hour, or talkin to a fishin' buddy about somethin (like when do you think the strike will happen) when BAM, back to task at hand! ;D

I've got another rig where I take a couple of wine corks, glue em together to make a reel seat.  Drill it to stick in the top half of a lightweight fly rod, and jig with a hand tied weighted smelt pattern.  The fight on that set up is phenominal!  The rod is bendin and the reel is singing!  I gotta get back out there, I'm gettin excited just thinkin about it.
Happy trails to you.......until we meet again....
