Fishing knot direction's
« on: Mar 09, 2008, 09:15 PM »
Looking for a good website that shows photos of fishing knots.  Looking for some good ones to use with braid.  Any knot names that are good for braid would be great also.

Thanks,
Dan

It's amazing how many knots there are.  I only know a few knots, but can't seem to find an archive to learn new knots from.

It may be that I am naive, or just lazy, but I can't imagine ( for sport-fishing line anyway ) the need for more than a single type of knot. I use the same knot for all fishing purposes. Don't even know what it's called, but I wrap the line around itself 5 or 6 times, pull the end back through the loop, then neatly pull the tackle  so that the wrap-arounds gather up in a neat noose tight against the hook-eye or swivel.

The weakest part in this arrangement is always the line strength, because nothing could ever make this knot slip. For me, there's no other knot options.

I think that one is called the improved clinch knot??

 It ain't the palomar. I have always called it the fisherman's knot. Palomar has the line going through the eye of the hook or lure then back, forming a loop, then wraping around, etc.

Gotta have at least 2 knots in your arsenal, cause if you ever switch to a braided line your old faithful will not hold. braided lines need the palomar knot for a good hold.

I think I use the knot that dfuller uses a lot, I call it the "fishermans knot also, but it would remind most people of a "modified Uni" knot.

You take the line, put it thru the eye of the hook, bring the "tag" (loose) end up the rod/reel  end of the line about 12", & pinch the reel end & the tag end of the lines together at about halfway (6" from the hook eye)with one hand/2fingers, take the 6" of tag end & loop around the 2 lines back down to the hook eye about 5-7 times,& then run the tip of the tag end thru the leftover loop that was formed when you first brought the 2 lines together. Moisten(I use spit) holding the tag end, & draw the hook away from the rod/reel line & the knot tightens around the hook eye, & then cut the tag end off about 1/16th inch away from the hook eye. ( i usually bite it off. ;) )
{I can do this knot, in the dark,with my glasses off,  about 3 times,
 in the time it took to type how to do it. ;) }
my best shot at the description. like it or leave it. :D
