pike with tipups

I went out to clear lake yesterday and didn't have any luck using pike minnows and goldfish.  Someone told me that lake james was a good place to go for pike but does anyone have any suggestions.

Smelt.Large ones if You can get them.8to12 FOW and a couple of foot offn the bottom with quickstrike rigs and that should get em. ;D
