Ice Cleats anyone?
« on: Mar 03, 2008, 04:23 PM »
Well...........

I just drove around Campbell Lake today, didn't see ANY fish laying on the ice, but one thing is for sure.

There isn't any Snow, So, if anyone of you venture on your favorite lakes anytime soon, you better not forget your ice cleats..

Or........you may just have a wet Butt....

I wore them today because it melted a little the last couple days.   I have to admit I don't always and crack the back of my head a couple times a year.  Just takes the wind out of ya besides seeing stars.  I've got a pair I like, get a grip with the little spikes but I  walk out of them now and then.  I've also got a pair of the chain ones which at least don't  come off.  I tried yak trax but wasn't all that impressed .  Any suggestions guys??

I use either cleats or corked xtra tuff boots, cleat my snowmachine tracks also. We are having clear ice conditions here & you can barley walk on the ice.

First hole I drilled this year i laid flat on my back with a wet a**,my bait flipping around on the ice next to me. you can bet my cleats were on soon as i stepped on the ice after that.

I use sz#10 sheet metal screws. 1/2 long won't go into your boots so that you feel them and mine haven't leaked.Plus they don't fall out and always in your boots. But beware if you're wearing your boots and go into a store or bait shop and they have tile or lanoleum floors you can and will slip. Also not good to walk around in them at home with hardwood or lanoleum floors either. :-\

I have settled in on the boot chains. I've found these have the least disadvantages. And as stated above, they don't come off without a lot of effort.
