A couple good ones salvaged the morning
« on: Mar 01, 2008, 06:34 PM »
Slabgill put a clinic on Spring bobber and I today.  After trying for perch and getting lite biters and no takers, we went looking for gills.  Slabgill put 12 on the ice before either spring bobber or I had a single fish!  We never caught up either.  We did not catch a lot for 3 people but 3 nice fish made it worth while....sort of.  Here are some pics of today's effort.

Everyone on the driveway:

A 10"+ redear and a 10" bluegill:

One lone 12.25" perch caught while gill fishing....go figure...:

Back at it in the morning...hopefully it will be better!!

Sorry to hear about your ice down there, but it looks like you put a pretty good arse whoopin' on them this year!!

We got a foot of solid ice on the lake we were on with about 5 inches of snow on top.  The snow will be gone after tomorrow and Monday, but then we get about 3 days of highs of 30-32 and lows in the mid teens that should freeze up the melted snow and what little rain we get.  We may get 2 more weekends out of it, but definitly one more weekend.  Just started fishing this lake last weekend and we still have some work to do to find the mother load of gills and perch.  We are getting a few, but there are lots and lots of them in there, we just have to find where they are holding.  No one fishes it all winter, so we can't 'follow the crowds' like alot of people do to find them.  It is only a matter of time and we will find them....

Sight fishing gills.....almost doesn't get any better than that.Except for if we had gotten about 30 jumbo's.....That would have been a perfect day.

NICE JOB!!
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.
