31 inch - 11 lb Northern Pike caught at Sodus bay
« on: Feb 20, 2008, 06:23 PM »
We arrived at Sodus Bay and the wind was blistering, but the sun was out and we were determined to catch some fish that werent perch for the second time this year! So we set up 7 tip ups all of which had 3 inch bass minnows on them, and after about two hours I noticed a flag was up  and told my brother to check it out, he said it was peeling line and told me to come over there, he set the hook and handed the line over to me, I knew right when I grabbed the line that it was either a huge largemouth, dogfish, or a nice pike. Turns out it was this 31 inch - 11 lb Pike. He barely fit through the hole and since I fought him for so long, I couldn't feel my hands and when I finally grabbed him he cut my hands up pretty good because I had my hand up his gills very high and couldn't feel a thing! haha  ENJOY!
P.S.... We attempted to keep him, and we wanted him to stay alive as long as possible for cleaning reasons, so we used the only rope we had which has been able to hold many other Pike without error, and 2 mins after we let this slob go into the hole with it in his gills, we went to check him out again, and he had bit thru the nylon string! It was very depressing, but at least we got the pics with a camera phone "sorry about the quality, the digital camera was in the truck!!"

I dont know why this picture is so small

That's the last time we ever use a nylon stringer on a large pike! "stupidity... we should have just kept her on the ice near the sled!"

Notice the weather change in 5 hours!

"Dear Lord,
PLEASE don't let me lose this fish! I've never caught one this big! I promise I will let it go after a quick picture or two for proof!"

Nice fish.  Too bad it will probably die after that abuse.
