Slushing your ice holes...Do u do it?

Do any of you slush your ice holes? By that i mean use your ice shavings to fill in the ice hole. Some believe it spooks fish less. I do it because on windy days the float on the Vexilar Transducer like to bob around and sometimes gives goofy signals. Have any of you noticed if you catch more fish by slushing the hole?

Seems to me that if you dump slush in the hole, the damn thing will freeze up again even quicker!! Besides, if the hole is full of slush, those tiny little jigs can't get back in the water.

FDC, I do, but with snow. cuts the light down, increases strikes on the tip-ups, and helps the holes stay free of 2" of ice when it's 25 below.

It does help to keep the floats on the Vexilar from swaying around. You can still get a jig through, i used the end of my ice scoop to open a small spot up if needed.

I put snow in the holes for all the same reasons barleydog does. Besides, if i don't, the wind will do it for me. olds

I have been putting snow in my holes for years. I usually don't do it during the day unless it is bitter cold. I constantly tend them. But when night falls this is an awsome way to keep them from freezing.

I agree with iceballs don't take long for it to freeze over without the slush, besides that's why I bought the ice scoop it's for taking the slush out not for putting it in

I use 10" squares of black roofing paper to cover my tipup holes
works great cuts out the light and prevents the deep freeze

I can understand the theory behind this but I use my thermal tipups to do the same thing .
I also will use a cover like someone stated here already . It is exactly why I have a scoop too . It annoys me to have slush in my hole . LOL

Hole covers work for me. Keeps it dark, don't have to scoop the hole that often......mostly never unless it's wicked weather. I really haven't heard much of people using hole covers. I know when I go out, I barely see anyone using 'em.

my friend takes out a small piece of cardboard that has a slit in it. It keeps the hole from freezing up and keeps snow from filling the hole in. I just cut a seperate hole in front of me for my flasher. Works pretty good. I'm sure with a little bigger slit you can get a tip-up to work with it also.

Take black rubber roofing material and cut to the shape of the bottom of a five gallon bucket put a slit in it to the center of it and put around your tip ups. Keeps them dark and they won't freeze up because the sun heats the black material up. Works excellent and they lay flat in the bottom of your five gal. bucket when not using.
good fishing,

Some fishing experts say you should clear the snow away from your tip-up hole to let in MORE light! They say it attracts more fish, they can see the light, then your bait triggering more strikes. I do think the snow in the tip-up hole helps with freeze up,but in my jigging hole I want it as clean as possible.
