couple of nice humpbacks
« on: Feb 17, 2008, 04:11 PM »
Headed out with my catfishin buddy matt before the rain sunday to a local catch and release pond.  The jigging action for me was good with the vex for about 20 panfish, on teardrops and blue fox spoons.  We picked up a couple junk pickerel in about 8 ft of water, with med shiners.  My goal was a humpback perch and matt was the first one to nail one on a teardrop, cant really tell if its a 14 or not but its at least good for 13 3/4.  While we were taking pictures of the perch, matt had a flag and ended up with a chunky little largie.  I finally grabbed a humpback just before packing it in for the day, didnt measure it, but it sure felt nice on a ul 2lb test setup.  Tight lines

Chunky humpback, looks like the old catch and release pond has a great gene pool. Lake must have some good forage to get those perch bellies full like that. Is it to early for them to be full of eggs? eggs or not those are some great and healthy looking fish.

Not sure if its too early for eggs or not, but each year when we do get a few perch, not too many in there, theyre all about that size and have some serious bellies.

Nice job putting Matt on some fish E. That's a chunky pond bass.

Some cold weather this week finally is going to help.
