« on: Feb 07, 2008, 07:46 PM »
I know this is a dumb ? but I just dont know...When using a deadstick do you use a bobber and leave the bail open on the reel?
I dont always drink beer, but when I do I like to drink alot of it.

I often fish a Schooley rod which has a spring bobber. The drag is set on the light side so it can be thumbed when it gets picked up. Also a hole is drilled through the handle and I shove a piece of broken fishing rod (a dowel would work, too). This prevent it from getting dragged down the hole while you are jigging another rod. It doesn't take much, I've seen medium size gills dump it in the hole with ease.

Rod holder or bucket and bail closed for a quick set.
The key is a soft ultralight rod so the fish don't feel it and spit the bait.
Good luck, to each their own eveyone got their way of doing things.

Depends on what I'm fishing for as to weither I use a bobber or not when dead sticking and the only time I leave the bail open is when dead sticking pike and then I tuck the line loosly under a rubber band.It doesn't allow the line to unravel off the spool and when a fish hits the line is pulled from the rubber band and the fish can run with the bait.

I deadstick all my poles.  I use a bobber, but not in the sence you would think.  I have a small bell epoxied onto 1 end of a small bobber, the other end clips onto the end of my rod, so I can both see, and hear any bites.
