I like the glow in the dark ones.  Also take off the hooks on the wings, you dont get caught up as much.  give the jig 4 or 5 quick 1 inch jerks, then jig it a foot or two off bottom.  then repeat.

I have jigged with an airplane many many times as I have been given that advice before - I've yet to ice anything. However, the guy that gave me a tip recently caught a 23 1/2" togue on one up north - I know that it does work just not for me yet.

Although I like the old style airplane better, the new style in whitefish color is AOK.  A little slice of sucker often helps lure in the shy fatties.  Have you also considered buying a few SPRO jigs?  Bunker, Magic Bus, Dark Shad, & GLOW GLOW GLOW are all good colors.

Not sure if you are talking about the same air plane jig that I have, but once I caught a salmon on one I will never use the thing again.  Way to many hooks mine has 3 sets of treble hooks and two regular it was a blood bath when I got the fish out of the hole.

My 2 cents
Mitch

I bought a bunch at Marden's in Waterville a month ago.  I've always liked using them.  The pike hit them and I've done well on togue in Sebago with them too.  White and white/red.  I liked the old style better though.  They covered more water.

I have an red/orange/ chartruse  and a green/LIME/White and they both show the same inability to interest touge. Had best luck using copper/orange  mooslook tipped w/ a small shiner or two
