OK guys...

Looks like the Bartons Cove Gathering is all sewn up so I'm starting the Bare Hill Gathering Thread to get things going...Same deal as Bartons....Good Friends, Good Fishin and Good Food.....Who's in? Bring some food?

Like last year I am thinking an oreo cookie pool....if you want in on the pool...you give 5 oreos...heaviest fish wins half the oreos with the other half being donated to the Camp Joslin deby happening on the same day......whaddya think?....would love to give out alot of oreos to both parties....I will hand deliver a bag full of oreos to Porter for Joslin....

Lets get it started.....

Bare Hill is in Harvard, MA...easy access from Rte 2...exit for Rte 110/111 Harvard....go a mile or two to center of town at blinking light...go straight thru light (at General Store)....Turn right on Pond Rd about 1/4 mile from light on your right...drive to the end to parking area...this year we will be heading to the left off beach to first island and we will surround it....we will set up base camp on rocky point at front of island...look for shanty flag a flyin'......

Had to pull a no show at Bartons but I will definately be at Bare Hill. I'm headed to ADKS in NY to fish with family this weekend and it will be my first time out so wish me luck! Supposed to car pool with Poppa and FTD to Bare Hill but I'm not sure if they are going yet. I will bring Jalapeno Venison Hot Dawgs!

Being a new guy to this site I think that this would be awesome. The get together this weekend (Barton's cove) doesn't work for me, but I can't wait to attend this one.

Just kidding...seriously from what I've heard (this will be my first shanty gathering as well) that it is an awesome time for everyone! Plenty of Food, Beer and oh yeah...fish too! I'll see you out there Bostoned.

Well, although I only have an hand auger, I don't think it will be a problem to drill a couple holes for people that have the right type of bribery.

I went to a-1 this past sunday with a friend and tried out the hand auger I bought on ebay. The thing was used and is old but had new blades and burned through the ice. It was crazy fast. I was really impressed with the thing.

key wood is to 'car pool' if possible. parking lot holds about 12 trucks.

good point lenz...main lot holds 12-15 trucks or so but you can park along road leading to the lot....

I am thinking about bringing the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School Fishing Club (MVRHSFC) to the gathering. We generally go on 1 or 2 field trips when we don't get ice on the Vineyard. It will be myself, my son (11) and 4 other members. we usually stay at the econolodge in Northborough. We've fished Chauncey, A-1, Moosehorn, Comet, Pontusuc, Onota, and many others. I try to get them around the state. we would like to come. still working on the field trip approval and transportation. The club has 25 members I'm only bringing 4 by luck of the draw.

PS: I fished Singletary on Sat the 26th. Man, I didn't care for that place much. It's down 10' because of milfoil. Tried fishing an impoundment down by the Purgatory Chasm, in Auburn I think, anybody know where i mean??? Auburn Distributing Co across the street from pond. The bait, shiner guy ,ED, 3 doors down from Singletary sent me there.
Drilled 20 holes only to find out there was about 2' of fishable water above the weeds between the ice, needless to say no fish and storm was setting in so my girl and I headed for the Vineyard 60 kt winds coming home. Drove right into a blizzard from a light flurry in central Mass. It usually is the opposite

would love to have ya....Harvard draws down Bare Hill Pond also for weed control, but still fish in 8-15 ft of water with no problem...
with a 20 ft hole nearby to where we will be fishing....

your group would be certainly welcomed and there will be plenty of food.....

let me know when you confirm trip approval...

I have never been to Bare hill pond, and a gathering of shanty guys, how is the fishing at bare hill, and does it get a lot of pressure

pressure isnt bad at all....maybe a dozen or so people out on a typical saturday..

great bass fishing...some big larrys in there...up to 10 lb....also crappie, white perch, pic, yellow perch, and the occasional smallie

I've done the Sargent derby the past few years, I'd like to try some place new. (Sorry Porter). And I've never been to an official iceshanty gathering.

I'll bring some extra jig sticks if anyone feels the urge to jig.

Well, It officially looks like very few IS guys will be coming to the Camp Joslin Tourney this year
