I was going to head down there this weekend, but other things came up, so I won't be able to go. A friend said the ice is fairly thin, but I don't know if that is true or not. If you go, good luck, and post a report or PM me.

Rezeye,

You might want to try to post on the Wyoming site.  There's a bunch of Sheridan guys on the Iceshanty.  They usually will have some intel.

I went down there on the 5th and 6th and did really well for crappie but guys I was with didnt want to stay after dark for more crappies and walleyes.  I used a forage minnow in glo-red and limited in abou 15 minutes.

Does anyone have any info on where I can get some minnows between Billings and Tongue River Reservoir? I am going to try and head over there for the first time on Saturday.  Any suggestions from anyone on good parts of the lake, good jig colors, etc or information on ice condition?

Thanks for any input

I went by there yesterday, but wasn't able to fish on the reservoir.  There was 1 shanty on Rattlesnake Point, otherwise the reservoir is deserted.  For crappie, around that point seems to always be good.  We use Genz worms and ice jigs, tipped with maggots.  Also, tipups with minnows.  A flasher helps as the crappie are usually suspended 5-10 feet or so down well off the bottom (unlike the walleye).

For minnows, Osprey Realty in Billings (Scot Lunden) or the Minnow Bucket in Huntley are the only live minnow sources I know of.  Nothing is open at TRR, and its now illegal to import live minnows from Wyoming.

As for the ice, it appeared to be good with several inches of fresh snow and a few pressure ridges.  However, TRR is famous for methane gas vents and springs under the ice.  I always check it if I more into a new area.

Tight lines.

Went to tougue on Saturday.  A few people around rattlesnake point.  We fished up around campers point.  Only one perch all day.  Really slow but the weather was nice.  It was my first time down there.  Anyone else down there this weekend from this site?
