If im not mistaken, Country Bait Shop in Valparaiso
carries a wide variety of these mentioned ice flies.
Not sure if they are homemade ones someone brings
in, or if they are produced in a factory?

But I have to say after reading the effectiveness
of these flies I might stop and get me a few.

And by the way Winchester 88, I myself cannot
go without my St Croix Legend rod with the
spring bobber. I actually own 2 of them now.
Thats just my personal preference.

I was tempted to buy one of these rods at the new Cabelas store. I to like the spring pattend bobber. I just couldnt bring myself to buy another 50 dollar rod THIS YEAR. I just got me a new thorne bros. rod that is 19 inches long and I am waiting to catch my first fish with it. Maybe next year I will try one of the St. croix in the ledgend series. Probably get out on Tuesday. Think I am going to give Bass Lake a try.

Wax Worm are those flys in your pics lead wire with paint?  I tie my own but, I usually use acetate thread over the lead wire. Or a strip of balloon or latex glove ( for a mousie - spike fly ) finnished with thread. I like the finnish on yours the spike fly looks like you used a pearl paint.
There is nothing in the world I'd rather do than ice fish!

If you don't have a shanty or just didn't bring it the wind can really frustrate you with the lighter flies.

But they are still what I go to when I'm looking for a bite ;D

Isn't that the truth...lol Been there for sure. Had all light flies & teardrops and couldn't tell when I was getting a strike. too windy...
Never unprepared again!

The ones I make are made with floss theard that is weaved onto a hook weighted with lead wire.  The others are made by A-bomb from this site and are painted.

A-Bomb...
What is the base of these flies that you make?
It looks like wire but the front near the eye looks like you soldered or epoxied a finish on them.
I have made some out of wire but never can get the kind of look that you have come up with.

Winchester 88
Has the rain a father?
Or who has begotten the drops of dew?
From whose womb comes the ice?
And the frost from heaven, who gives it birth?
By the breath of God ice is given and the broad waters are frozen.
The waters harden like stone and the surface of the deep is frozen.

Here are some that I have made. Black is my go to color and black with some other color. All the flies are wrapped with .02 dia lead wire then painted or fingernail polish, then epoxy coated. Some that I make are with balloons. I am going to put these to use this weekend. Tight lines  Steve

Anybody willing to sell me a few of their killer flies? I would love to get a hold of some and maybe help keep my boy interested in ice fishing. He gets bored fast and I could use all the help I could get.
