What about fishing for steelies? or small game hunting.
Tell ya the truth I am bored thats why I'm sitting here.
Around here I dont get to do much icefishing anymore, at least
not like I used too. The goofy wheather going from blistering cold
to 65 the next day has really been messing things up.So that means
I have to put in some serious travel time to find ice.
There's alot more open water oppurtunities but its best to have a boat.
Mine gets put away by Dec. so the wife can use the garage for the winter.
That makes me a BANKY till beginning of March. A couple of my buddies
keep their boats out all year. When I get to go we do pretty good for trout
and L.L.S. its just not often enough to keep me from getting BORED.

This "no ice" sucks! I finished up my sled upgrade type project...I did go small game hunting this morning. My thought was snowshoes would stick out pretty good now with no snow, nothing! I did jump one cottontail , though. So stir crazy I broke down and did some yard work and cleaned up the garage. I can't wait for ice!

"The Old Man" and I will be on the water tomorrow chasing perch. I went around to some of my spring shore fishing spots today and did OK on gills and even a few crappie.

Don't stop fishing just because there's no ice....get out there!

I drove around for a little bit today to look at the crappy ice (what's left of it.) As an afterthought I brought along the Rem 870 and my dog. I was driving down an old dirt road to check a place on some state land in Otsego County and I saw a partridge run across the road to the right. I pulled over, grabbed the shotgun, loaded it and stepped out. As I did, four or five other grouse flushed on the left side of the road. I have never seen that many grouse flush at once. I went after the one who ran across the road cause he hadn't took off in the air yet and I was hoping I could flush him out. I then heard him take off, but didn't see him. So I drove down a couple hundred yards and let the dog out to see if we could find the four or five "left-siders." We walked around for about 30 minutes or so and didn't see any birds. I might go back there tomorrow morning with better boots and warmer clothes and see if I can't shoot me some birds! By the way, Goodyear was as expected pretty much crapped out. There is ice out there but the shorelines are really bad. The main channel is flowing really strong right now. Even when the cold weather comes and starts to make ice again, I plan on being really careful out there. There were some sketchy spots and cracks on the ice that was left.

This morning I watched the same fishing show for the third time in the last 4 days.  I have the new Bass Pro catalog memorized.  Cleaned the fridge after the spikes escaped.  I have been keeping busy.

Bored out of my mind...NO
Going out of my mind...YES

Trying to come up with some ideas to modify tip up and rod storage that work with the quad and the light trip walk on.
Not finding many ideas that are gonna save me much money versus just buying a name brand pack.

Bart that is one wild sled rig you got there, does it get top heavy on uneven terrain?
I've seen other guys with similar setups and always wondered.

Noticed a lot of the small creeks that were frozen over are open now and the flood water receeded quickly...Probably could hammer the Muskrats & Beavers. Mink & Coon too!

We're wandering, but then again we're bored....

Do you guys trap Fisher?

I've only seen a couple in the wild in Wyoming County where I do most of my hunting.

Ended up at Gander Mountain looking for ice fishing videos. Of course they where out so I settled for an InFisherman panfish dvd that had one segment on ice fishing. Worked for about 15 minutes.

      Bart,
Nice sled. It looks a little top heavy. I would think the pvc pipe would be very brittle in the cold weather. No need to worry about that right now........... Fortunately for me I'm on call this weekend. Kept telling the wife there was a strange smell coming from the water heater. I'm a plumber by trade so my nose smells more than most. After pulling the flue pipe out I noticed a black background. I thought at first my chimney may have collapsed. Looking at it closer it turned out to be tar paper, as in roofing. Well I had my roof done last MAY and hadn't a problem until 3 weeks ago. Took me 1 1/2 hours to pull it all out. The roofer will be getting a call next week. I do have a good quality carbon-monoxide tester so it couldn't have been too bad. Don't need problems like that. Still bored though. Had to tinker with the sled and atv to kill some time. Hope next week the ice will be in better shape....

Wellsy, I don't think top heavy will be a problem. All heavy gear/items will be in the sled.

crappieslayer22, how much ice do you have??? Nice catch there by the way!
