General Great Lakes Fishing Tips
« on: Dec 28, 2007, 01:33 AM »
I'm new to ice fishing on the great lakes but want to give it a shot now that we have some decent ice here in WI.  Any suggestions on what to fish with/where/for out there?  I was going to shoot for salmon or trout but anything in between would be great!  I'm really lost when it comes to how deep, suspended fish, structure, and what to use. From the maps I see I'd be fishing anywhere from 20-200 feet deep, docks, maybe weedlines, reefs, rock piles, mostly in the bays or harbors that come in.

i fish lots of the bays and harbors of lake superior. most of the time i can see bottom where i am fishing and i am jigging 6 to 18 inches off of the bottom with a swedish pimple or northland jig with half a minnow or a piece of smelt on it. your local tackle store would probaly give you lots of info also. you can always just look for the shanties on the ice and ask someone.
