Yeah, thanks, I brought him home without gutting him, thought I might have a record fish. He was about 12 pounds...come to find out (last I heard anyway) the state record is over 35 or so and it came out of Morton (Pilot Butte) over by KInnear. ...So we ate him.  ;D

bo's and cutts, but I was told they pulled the water levels down to zero last year. G&F in Lander might be able to tell you if the fish survived or if they re-stocked it. shucks! Ya know though, you just can't kill a ling even by taking it outta the water or pulling the levels down. D

Pilot Butte was pulled down around 25 feet over the summer, but that still leaves 30 feet of water. As for the state record ling it's only 19lb 4oz out of this reservoir. A few years ago lake trout were stocked, but I don't think they survived with all the ling.

44 inches! That might be hard to beat. I would think boysen has a couple swimming around that big.

I would say Flaming Gorge, they eat nothing but protein rich, salmon, trout, and crayfish.

If i catch any big ones outta the gorge you guys will be the first to know. Seemed the ones our group got last year were real dinks. But outta the 3 we got so far this year none were real small. Too early to tell but the ling are definetely thriving.

Used to pull some big ling out of Torrey and Ring lake up by Dubois when I was little, it used to be normal to pull 15 pounders out pretty regularly...I wish those were in Boysen!!

Monstr, you may or may not believe this. My "first" father in law, was part of the local tribe. He grew up fishing bull lake. He has an old pic. (black and white) of about 15-20 monster ling stacked up like cord wood in the trunk of an old 50's something chrysler.  He said that pic was from the early 60's. I haven't visited with him in years, wonder if he still has that old pic?   ???

I believe that brother, I've talked to some of the Indians over there and heard similar stories. It would be great if you could dig that pic up and post it. :woot:  :icefish:

G&F biologist told me they were native on the east side, not the west...as I recall...native (in Wyoming) to the Wind-Bighorn, Tongue and Clark's Fork Drainages.(Ring, Trail, Torrey, Ocean, Boysen annd Bighorn Lakes)  I guess that's why they want us to exterminate them out of the Gorge and Big Sandy.

As many as I've heard people catching....they'll never be exterminated. Pretty soon all the gorge will have in it is ling and lakers....lol.

That biologist was not lying LT.  The ones we caught the other night had eggs in them the size of pin heads, white and one heck of allot of them.

Yep, that's kinda how it was described to me, one female with an incredible amount of eggs and a male to fertilize them would be all it would take to populate a given body of water  :woot:

Neat Ling Story!
We (family) were fishing early last spring below the dam.  I was drifting minnows thru one of the popular holes picking up some nice bows and small eyes.  I would hook them and the girls would reel them in.  I think we landed about 6 or 7. I caught a piece a line and grabbed it and started to pull it in.  Well it started pulling back.  I gave the line some slack and told the oldest to pull it in so I could get the free lure.  She started pulling and her eyes got big. She would pull and stop with a puzzle look on her face.  I was trying not to laugh and kept casting.  She started yelling and was getting all excited.  She kept telling me that she had a fish on and I kept telling her no way.  Well the hole was pretty deep and finally she could she the fish and boy did she get excited.  She finally got it in and all I hear now is how girls don't need poles to catch fish.  Maybe someday I'll tell her but maybe not.  She fished with that line for the rest of that day and I was hoping somehow (praying) that she would catch one.  Gave her an A plus for efford. Cheers KR
