It will be at Stone lake in Laporte Indiana on Saturday Jan 12th and Sunday January 13th. Time is 7am to 4pm each day with dinner and coffee being provided. A $5.00 entry fee will be charged. All proceeds will go to family.

Ice fisherman dies in Noble lake
By Megan Hubartt
The Journal Gazette
A 51-year-old Albion man was found by divers in a Noble County lake more than an hour after a 911 call was made saying the man had fallen in Tuesday evening.

Stephen W. Koontz had been ice fishing on Big Lake in Noble County on Tuesday when thin ice apparently gave way underneath him and he fell in, an Indiana conservation officers report said.

The Noble County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call about 5 p.m. saying Koontz had fallen into the lake. The Noble Township Fire Department helped conservation officers break the thin ice with its rescue boat so divers could get to the area, the report said.

Koontz was found by divers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources at 6:32 p.m. about 60 yards east of the west shore in about 21 feet of water. His body was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, where an autopsy will determine the official cause of death, the report said.

Indiana conservation officers were assisted by the Noble County Sheriff’s Department, Noble County medics, Albion Fire Department and the Noble County Coroner’s Office.

You know I am in. And I'll tell you what, I am gonna hit that lake as soon as it is safe and mark all the perch spots.  Or atleast maybe mark where all the taverns are?  Something.  Anyway, I'll be out there, hope to meet a lot of fellow hardwater fisherman, and for a good cause too.

Ill be in a cast January 7th but if I don't have to walk far I'll try and be at the tournament. Wallin and I are relatives so It would be fun rooting around too!

High Flags, sounds good. I will NOT miss this as long as we have enough ice.

Maybe when the time comes, we could PM our numbers and make a plan to meet up?

Looking forward to this. Will be a good time, for an even better cause.

Man I'm bummed. Ice in NW Indiana is still a no show for the most part. We need a miracle to put enough ice on stone to pull this off!

Hi Gang!  Its suppose to get really cold and that just might do it for a walking tournament.   I see my arctic spurs are very adjustable and might fit over a cast.  I might just come for moral support and to donate a bit of $$.  Hey if we don't have ice lets just have a get together and a cookout I would like to meet and talk with you all anyway??  How does that sound??  I mean just in case.

Everything is still a go. If ice is not safe on stone we can just move it over to pine (the lakes are sorta connected)

If we can proceed on Stone we will meet up at the Boy scout Cabin by the parking area. ( not by the boat launch!) The Cabin is right next to the beach. There is decent parking there. Geese usually keep a large section of the lake open and most people fish on the side by the cabin anyways. I would hate to see people walk across "unsafe ice" to  get to the meeting spot. My girlfriend will be serving chilly and coffee and collecting donations etc. I'm trying to get her to go from fisherman to fisherman in her bra offering coffee but she isn't feeling that so much! HA I said its for a good cause! Any help would be appreciated with this thing. If anyone owns a large gas cauldron to keep the chilly warm that would be cool. Any suggestions would also help out.

I believe they want 500 bucks a day :( ............  (Or at least thats what my buddy told me). That would eat up all the proceeds for the benifit. Unless we have a wealthy good hearted fellow ice fisherman that would help out! HINT HINT!

Abishop-- Didn't you mention that your son runs or works for the LP parks department? Maybe he could help us out.

If not, I know a few people that work for the city parks, so I will ask and see if they can do anything.

Snowzone-  With a little luck, I will PM you with some info.

It also looked like the hole the geese had opened, capped over the past 2 nights. Granted, it's still really thin, but at least there didn't look to be much snow on that part of the lake(SE)

Somebody went out in front of the beach today as well. Im venturing out tomorrow to check the ice there.

The cabin is known as, Cummings Lodge.

Snowzone, sorry to hear about your car wreck. I fished pine last week. the ice was only 3to 4 " then .With all that snow and these warm temps. I hope that Pine is safe by the week end. The ice in valpo is going fast.

HI gang!
It is time to get some serious ice dancing on.  I did some before the trip to Minnesota a few weeks ago and they got 8" of ice in three days.  I know it works but it takes a team of guys to pull it off.

Hi Gang!
I was wondering if we are still going to have the cookout anyway.  We could just all get together and hang out for a few hours.  It would be a great time meeting all of you.  I still think we should have some get together so we could donate for this cause.  Hopefully it will happen let us know!
  Thanks
  Da-Roc
