What are the ice conditions at Petrolia?  And if anything has been biting.

First time on this board and things look pretty cool.

Any updates from Petrolia yet?  Is there enough ice to fish?  Anyone catching anything?  I'm thinking of running up this weekend if there was ice.

I mostly know of pike and perch, but I've heard of a few walleye.

Any info on the ice would be most appretiated, it is a long way for me to drive, but I would like to get there this weekend.

Went out saturday.  About 5-6 inches of ice near the shore.  Didn't venture out very far so I didn't check the thickness in the middle.  Quite a few people out.  Pretty slow day.  2 pike, nothing special.

I fish Petrolia quite a bit summer and winter, but only when I don't feel like driving 150+ miles to catch nice fish. All I catch there regularly is small pike under 5 pounds, most under 1 pound and small walleye around 14-15 inch. Get skunked more often than not. Tough fishing dam, but on the right day you can catch a few, its never very good, just fairly close.

Was there Friday ice was still about 10-11 inches but seemed to be getting soft. Auger
sort of just almost fell through the ice, chips seemed spongy. Had a couple hits on  tipups nothing jigging, about normal for Petrolia.

Can anyone comment on the potential for decent Petrolia pike, say 30 inches and up ? I know they seem to run small but has anyone seen or heard of any trophies ?

Heard of one caught there a while back. Personally haven't caught one over 10 pounds there. Saw a nice walleye caught there last year about this time, but they are few and far between, both nice pike and nice walleye, very few perch also.

Went out 2 days ago.  Wind was terrible for a while.  Caught no fish, talked to another group and they had the same report (they only caught a couple small fish).  Anyone else been out lately?

Does anyone have a report on recent ice conditions on the Petrolia reservoir ?

Thank you, Race
