Anyone ever carry their Vexilar on a plane?
« on: Nov 15, 2007, 11:55 AM »
I am heading to WI for two weeks at Christmas for some Walleye fishing and can't fish with out my FL-20. Has anyone ever traveled with one, I would hate to put it below the way they throw things around. If I try to take it as a carry on, the security in Boston will probably think it is a bomb or something, and I don't want to start my vacation with a cavity search. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just a thought but, you could package it really good with foam/bubble wrap and ship it out seperately.

you could carry it on, but put the battery in your suitcase.  no way they let you on with that big exposed 12volt battery is my guess.  Just a hunch but short of that...I'd ship it out later.  Or maybe remove the receiver and leave the batter, frame and transducer in your bag.

I would make sure to get to the airport extra early. Might be a good idea to bring any user manuals with so you can prove to them what it is.

Can you ship it ahead?

Call the airline first, and check TSA's site.  No way would I show up at the airport without doing some thorough checking first.

I think that I would just ship it UPS or what ever.  Wouldn't cost all that much and no hassle.
Shut up and fish.

as it ships easily right from the manufacturer   use the same box you got it in   ups FedEx  and all  still toss stuff around    or Styrofoam a 5 gal bucket and pack it with bubble wrap if you carry it on  it prob be handled the same way computers are turn it on  or just carry the head with you in a carry on bag   I wouldn't worry   maybe the TSA agent also fishes ya never know

This has the makings of a pretty good story.  If you decide to take it to the airport, let us know how it goes. ;D

Hello,
My wife works for a major airline so I asked her about the electronics and battery rules. Sealed battery and gel cell are OK. older style wet cell are a problem. They deal with the battery issue every day with many wheel chairs and power chairs. By the way you may not have any spare lithium batteries in your checked bags. they must be connected to a device or in a carry on.
 Hopes this helps
